'Ignore Sarah Palin Week': Website Encourages Looking Away

A liberal group, apparently frustrated with all the attention its nemesis keeps getting, is promoting "Ignore Sarah Palin Week," urging like-minded souls to change the channel or surf to another Web page whenever the ubiquitous former governor of Alaska pops up.

Left Action said it has collected more than 32,500 pledges from partisans willing to take part in the effort, which began Sunday.

"You betcha we're ignoring her," the website announced, mimicking Palin's folksy dialect. "We've tried debating her, arguing with her, boycotting her, voting against her, and yet . . . she keeps coming back. Much like a vampire or a nasty fungus."

Despite the unflattering references, Left Action told those taking the "pledge," that "We wish only the best for Sarah Palin and her family. We just don't want her to be president, and we just want to take a week off from paying attention to her. . . . Have fun in the comments but keep it nice, and no threats -- even in jest, okay?"

Washington Post Columnist Dana Milbank took a similar tack last month, vowing that he would not write about the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate for the entire month of February.

Palin commands extraordinary media attention, seemingly without even trying hard as she confines most of her newsy comments to Facebook and Twitter postings or appearances on Fox News. Yet she is covered by the mainstream media with the kind of intensity normally reserved for a politician in high elective office. She has toyed with the unceasing speculation as to whether she will run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Left Action describes itself as a "network" of more than 1 million activists "fighting for progressive causes."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Palin is a clown. I really want her to win the nomination. She will be an easy target for the Democrats. As the nominee she won't be able to cry victim and get away without a response. Imagine a candidate for presidential office writing notes in the palm of her hands. That is something one would associate with children. She read all the the newspapers and magazines in the US and couldn't name one. Let her run. She makes good political fodder.

She sure does worry the left wing liberals.
Why do you suppose that's so ??? If all they say about her is true, then their shouldn't be any need to worry about her being their next president HUH???? As personal attacks continue against her and her family, will only resolve in her ascent, and soon, they will be addressing her as, president Palin, AND I FOR ONE, CANNOT WAIT !!!!

Most of the people I know aren't worried about her. Just annoyed. I've read her book, and while I think that she did great things for her state, she plays the blame game far too much to be a good president. Which is saying something considering how often politician's play the blame game in general. To be fair though, I'd much rather that she wins than Huckabee. She's saner and seems to be a lot nicer at least.

This kind of blog is what tends to be a magnent for Sarah Palin. She is kind, honest, doesn't call others rotten names, doesn't ignore legal Americans, is compassionate, doesn't play childish games, has integrity, and It would come as a incrediable mistake to ignore her even for a week. Thank God for Sarah Palin. It's a serious flaw in one who would initiate such childish behavior. For this thread I am sure there will be some name calling of me now, but it's to be expected judging from the other comments here.

So 32,000 close-minded liberals will ignore her while millions will watch and read about her. I'm sure that pitiful number is going to make a huge impact. lol

What millions? She can't even sell out a printing of 700,000 books, there are no millions waiting for her to run.

As a woman, I am always interested and encourage women in politics. However, not Mrs. Palin. Her obvious lack of education, understanding of the country's problems, problem with the truth and, at times, it seems her sole objective in life is to degrade anyone that does not follow her far-right line of thinking. She is an embarassment to women.

Well Hello Denny

How can anyone ignore Silly Sarah? I won't be participating, as she is a constant source of laughter. I just LOVE watching her make such a complete fool of herself, and watching her blind followers think that she's the hottest thing since jalapenos. Why ignore her when she is such a hoot. America needs a comic relief about now, and Sarah fills the bill to a tee!

Sarah Palin has been using her open flirting with all the middle and senior aged old men with her cutesy little wink & hick comments for so long. I only hope that their naive wives & anyone with an education will soon realize that she is certainly NOT presidential material. We should all be scared to death that someone like her is even considering running. I'm sure hoping that there are enough sane people in the US to stop her in her tracks.

I will certainly pledge to ignore all Sarah Palin articles for a week, if all Americans will promise to ignore the Kardashian Family for eternity...seems like a fair trade-off to me...
