Unions run the business right now. Wierd thing is we talk about tax cuts for the "Rich" and "Corporations" but those are Union Bosses, and investments in Union Retirement funds. Cutting taxes for Corporations would actually HELP the unions to gain money, but apparently they are too stupid to realize that their jobs and incomes come from corporations. Hard to negotiate with any business when it is not making a profit. Tax them, Unionize them out of profit and you have "Socialism" where the companies are owned by all and no one makes any money.
If the Wisconsin Governor want to balance the state's deficit he should be instructing the state's attorney general to go after the Wall Street Hucksters that screwed the state's pension funds
March 06 2011 at 4:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOnly thing is, they didn't. WI has one of the strongest pension funds in the country, funded at 99.8% for the next 30 yrs. The fund managers weren't stupid enough to get sucked into the bad paper that Wall Street was pushing.
March 09 2011 at 1:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyjust bite the bullet and take the tax rates to Clinton's time and enjoy prosperity and happiness all over again, or suffer and cut and scream and fight, sacrifice so some rich people get richer and invest their money in India or sit on $2 trillion dollars, your choice.

March 04 2011 at 6:44 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyI for one am glad someone can stand up for our rights. If I were the teacher's unions I would go on strike as soon as this legislation passed and would not return until they rescinded this idiotic bill. America the Free? Hardly, it's republicans stripping people of their right to bargain for their pay! When has a CEO EVER had to bargain for their pay? Do you think CEO's ever go before their poorest workers and ask them what they should be paid? Remember it is Wall Street, Banks and corporate CEO's who started this recession. Let's see how many companies stay afloat after all the jobs have moved overseas just the way the CEO's want. I hope these Democrats keep fighting for Americans.
March 03 2011 at 8:59 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyI don't believe the bill stops collective bargaining for pay.
March 04 2011 at 2:42 PM Report abuse Permalink +3 rate up rate down ReplyIn my opinion all the furror in Wisconsin boils down to one thing and one thing ony. "Some" politicans, if they can't have their way just leave and abdicate their responsibilities to the voters!!! FINE them, JAIL them, RECALL them, I don't care WHAT you do with these l4 totally Childish Democrats that fled Wisconsin(If they can't have their cake they just leave the party!!!) but DO something for petes sake and do it quickly........ they are setting one of the most dangerous precedents I have ever seen in this coiuntry, that is, if one isn't satisfied with a legal vote then just quit!
March 03 2011 at 6:33 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Replywhy are you republicans afraid to negotiate with democrats are the teachers union instead you want to force your plan through without debate your constuents can listen to your scared to death of the teachers union so much so you feal you have to eliminate them rather than face them at the barganing table gotta tell you you wisconsin republicans and govener look mighty scared of dems and the teachers union mighty scared
March 05 2011 at 1:21 AM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyDon't really think this is about tenure, nor schooling, or collective bargaining, or money or power. It is not about stealing, funding, good or bad teachers. The key issue here subverting the elected government in Wisconsin? I'm all for good education, fair wages as well as balancing the Wisconsin budget. I come from a democrat family for three generations.
What really chaps my ass is the senators who took their football to Illinois and won't play anymore. There is a right way to do the right thing and a "wrong" way. Let's NOT subvert the voters. Please don't tell me about all the other details.
IF the people truly do NOT like Walker and his plan, lets vote the republicans out during the next election and change these laws. Our Wisconsin senators should go back to work -- immediately.
I understand what you are saying but you have to understand that once a law is passed, no matter how horrible or unfair it is, is virtually impossible to undo. Also, it Wlaker gets his way, every Republican Governor will see this as a green light to screw over the workers and give more huge tax breaks to the very rich who will use it to send more jobs overseas. I can respect someone for standing for principle but not nobody should have the right to destroy the lives of working people.
March 04 2011 at 10:08 AM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyAmen, maybe the Union Members should read this and be happy they have a job.
March 03 2011 at 10:14 AM Report abuse Permalink +8 rate up rate down ReplyReally? If it were up to Republicans all "jobs" would be shipped overseas. Whats wrong with this country when people are satisfied "just to have a job". What happened to good jobs where people can support their familes? If it were up to Republicans there would be two classes: CEO's and the unemployed.
March 03 2011 at 8:53 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyDo you really believe what you wrote here? It's a well known fact that the middle class does pay the biggest overall share of tax revenue collected in this country. Why on earth would a politician want to cut out the number of people paying into the system, cut the amount of money going into his pocket, and get voted out next re-election, thereby losing all the power and influence and outright ability to manipulate the system they have? And why would the CEO's want this to happen, since they would be the only ones left to tax? We all know how well the rich like to pay taxes. No, the Republicans simply want public employees to know that they are no better than private sector employees, and when things get tight, you have to cut back. Public employees who are paying less than private sector employees for their health insurance are already subsidized by the tax payers, because that is where their entire salary originates. Why do you believe that public employees deserve to be treated better than private sector employees? And the teachers that called in sick to go out and protest did that at the expense of the tax payers. Who here is really being selfish?

March 04 2011 at 2:21 PM Report abuse Permalink +6 rate up rate downWisconsin is ranked 8th in the best school system and 4th in highest graduation rates. It is ranked 48th in starting pay. It is ranked 2nd out of 50 states in highest ACT/SAT scores of their high school students. 90% of the top 10 best school system states voted for Obama in last Presidential election. 70% of the bottom 10, worst school systems, voted Republican. Republicans want to "Dumb Down" America. They are terrible at keeping good teachers. One example, Republican state Arizona is ranked last in best schools and yet pays their teachers $5,000 more than Wisconsin. Governor Walker was a high school drop-out and he never went to College. He does not anyone to be more educated than him – so he wants to dumb down the Wisconsin children. In the same bill, it allows for state funded no bid contracts for corporations. Basically, this means that the state will pay two to three times more for a contract such as construction, energy, etc. This extra money will help fund Walker's friends who contribute to his campaign. Steal from the teachers and give to Corporate friends. That's his motto.
