Meghan or Reagan - The Republican Choice?

    By Caleb Howe

Every pundit, news anchor, talk show host, journalist, blogger, Twitterer, gad about town and dude in camouflage shorts sitting at a computer has, in the last few weeks, had something to say about the future of the Republican party. The loudest and most repeated message is that Republicans are not modern; we are not hip. Things have changed, and yes we (Republicans) can, nay must, change with them. The quieter message insists that Republicans have already wandered too far toward Obama, too far away from what made the party work before. The overall din is raucous. Are there to be purges, or big ...

Just How Irrelevant Is the GOP?

    By Caleb Howe

I mentioned earlier today on Twitter that I've never before seen as much ink spilled in an attempt to convince someone they were irrelevant as by the left lately regarding the right. Last week, for example, Chuck Shumer had this to say about Republicans: "The world has changed. The old Reagan philosophy that served them well politically from 1980 to about 2004 and 2006 is over. But the hard right, which still believes ... [in] traditional values kind of arguments and strong foreign policy, all that is over." Talk about strong words. As I outlined on these pages previously, here and here, and ...

The Culture Wars Caught on Video

    By Caleb Howe

Three very instructive videos are making the rounds online today, and in sum they are illustrative of where the discourse in America finds itself in Obama's "post-partisan" age.The first and, arguably, most offensive video comes from the halls of academia (try to withstand the shock). As Mark Hyman at The American Spectator puts it, "move over Janet Napolitano":Pennsylvania State University has joined the Napolitano school of thought in warning against the dangers presented by military veterans. The university's Division of Student Affairs produced a series of vignettes under the category of ...

Obama on Education: Not What Ruby Expected

    By Caleb Howe

As Pejman Yousefzadeh succinctly points out, the Obama administration "is doing immense damage to the educational environment in D.C." through their botched handling of the school voucher issue. The President sends his children to a prestigious private school which, through his Administration's callousness, will soon see the exile of voucher students; disadvantaged students who will be shuffled off to the public school system. I guess you could could say Obama thinks they should be with their own kind. It goes without saying that if a Republican were kicking poor kids out of his own children's ...

CNN's Obama Rep: The Full Story

    By Caleb Howe

By now, you've certainly read about Susan Roesgen and seen the video of her pathetic, biased, despicable farce masquerading as tea party coverage. PJTV has an excellent video available here which takes Roesgen and her terrible performance to pieces. One of the most illuminating moments is a segment she ran a few years back at a liberal protest. In her tea party segment, Roesgen is indignantly offended by a sign depicting Obama as Hitler. She considers it not family viewing. Her distaste is written on her face, expressed by her demeanor, and explictly discussed in her own words. Roesgen defends ...

    Democrats Have Short Memory

    By Caleb Howe

... luckily, Redstate doesn't. SaveTheGOP.com asked earlier if anyone remembered this ad by MoveOn, which dramatically features children working in low wage, labor intensive jobs and asks "Guess Who's Going To Pay Off Bush's $1 trillion deficit?" It's the children you see. Redstate's Neil Stevens offers a none too subtle rejoinder to MoveOn's quaint 2004 era concern for $1 trillion dollars here: Yep. How about that? But hey, at least we get plenty of condoms and bullet trains or ... something. (Nobody really knows.) ...

    Keith Olbermann: Twitt

    By Caleb Howe

Dan Cooper, formerly of Fox News, was maliciously smeared by Keith Olbermann on March 20th. Recently, Keith Olbermann has been guilty of some pretty embarrassing lapses of research. Today at Redstate.com I wrote about one of the biggest. To summarize, about a week ago Olbermann named Twitter his "Worst Person in the World" for allegedly refusing to stop a fraudulent imposter account. It seems that Olbermann received an email addressed to Dan Cooper which referenced the @KeithOlbermann Twitter feed. Olbermann implies that Dan, as part of an apparent Fox News plot to defame him, is running the ...

    Two More Obama Appointee Scandals

    By Caleb Howe

In the ongoing drama that is the Obama transition there are, like in any good crime novel, constant new characters and new twists. Today, two new scandals are the talk of the net as two more Obama appointees face trouble. This time we have FBI raids, people being arrested in their offices, and some serious questions about what the heck is going on here.First up is Vivek Kundra, appointed as Obama's Chief Information Officer just last week. His office has spent the day coping with an FBI Raid in relation to a bribery sting involving his aide Yusuf Acar. Acar was taken into custody by the FBI ...

    Redstate Radio Weekly Response

    By Caleb Howe

Brian Darling and Derek Hunter are on fire this week: "Watch out for Canada." Heh. Not sure what happened at the end there. All of the economic questions and points they bring up are superb, but most important of all is that the press is failing utterly to critically examine what is happening and what is going to happen as a result of all of Obama's massive spending. To borrow from what Newt said of Obama, if this isn't socialism it's a great impersonation. Each week, Redstate Radio responds to the President's weekly YouTube address via podcast. ...

    Democrats 'Fail' FAIL

    By Caleb Howe

What's in a word?Whether through deliberate denseness for political point-scoring, or through genuine failure of linguistic understanding, Democrats seem to be having real trouble with the word fail. But the word fail must be defended; or more particularly its usage; or more specifically its recent usage by Rush Limbaugh, which is thematically emblematic of its usance in politics et al.Understand that I'm not indulging my admitted logolepsy here, and I don't think I'm engaging in ergoism, but being deliberately solecistic is an effrontery to discourse that must of occasion be countervailed ...
