    By Greg McNeilly

New York Governor David Patterson (D-NY) announced today the appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand as the new U.S. Senator from the Empire State replacing Hillary Clinton upon her confirmation as Secretary of State. As noted earlier, Caroline Kennedy withdrew from consideration on Wednesday after learning the speculation had turned heavily towards Gillibrand. Gillibrand, a second term Congresswoman, was named by the Capitol Hill publication Roll Call as the "most prolific freshman" fundraiser. She's voted against timetables for withdraw for Iraq; joined with Obama in supporting FISA's ...

    By Greg McNeilly

Sweet Caroline sings the swan song. The favored pick of elites to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, Caroline Kennedy, has withdrawn her name from consideration according to reports. This stunning move comes as sources suggested Governor David Patterson (D-NY) was ready to make his appointment. This afternoon speculation began to swirl that Patterson's choice was moving towards Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Other names back in circulation include Congressman Steve Israel, Carolyn Maloney, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo ...

    Go Gitmo!

    By Greg McNeilly

Nearly at the end of Day One of the stay-the-course Administration of Barack Obama and Gitmo or Guantanamo Bay terrorist detainee center. He did order the Pentagon to suspend prosecutions of detained terrorists for 120 days. Essentially, he decided to hold war criminals longer without trial. This is a big deal for the Left. If you spend anytime reading DailyKos or other liberal outlets, you know they want to release all of the terrorists or to move it to American soil so that U.S. laws govern the treatment of the prisoners. Therein lies one of political problems. Where do you put it? ...

    Inaugural Brothel?

    By Greg McNeilly

Everyone heard the fact Barack Obama's Inauguration was the most expensive in history. Cha-ching. $170 million worth of "change." Even adjusted for inflation, the new Party of the Rich (and infamous) would make even Marie Antoinette blush. Most of the cash is coming from you, the taxpayer. In more than one way. First, there is the $124 million directly from government. Then there is the $45 million from Obama's personal Inaugural Committee. That's the highest yet, Bush spent $42 million in 2005, $33 million was spent in 1993 by Bill Clinton. But what if nearly 20% of that $45 millon was ...

    Fear Makes a Comeback

    By Greg McNeilly

America's job providers - those who invest capitol to create employment - literally puked during the Inauguration of Barack Obama. Not since 1900, has the DOW dropped as much as it did today during a President's Inaugural. Those trying to get the USA running again by fueling companies with the resources they need to compete and win demonstrated a great deal of fear upon Obama's swearing in. Correlation does not mean causation but it makes you wonder. Financial companies plunged 15 percent, their largest single day drop in nearly two decades. The market as a whole free fell 4 percent. Wall ...

    Secretary Biden?

    By Greg McNeilly

During an interview taping with Oprah Winfry, Jill Biden let slip that her husband, now Vice President-elect Joe Biden, was offered the position of Vice President OR Secretary of State. According to the soon-to-be Second Lady, Biden picked Vice President because it requires less travel. Joe Biden shushed his wife after the disclosure. Afttwards the professional communications staff issued a statement saying that she misrepresented the real story. Sure. Both the Secretary of State and Vice President famously spend a ton of time representing America at funerals, ribbon cuttings and ...

    Tie on a Red Ribbon

    By Greg McNeilly

The Atlantic brings to our attention Washington Mills Elementary School in Alexandra, VA is encouraging students to wear a red ribbon today. Actually, they're going a step further. This government school is issuing the ribbons for students to wear. The stated purpose, "to show support for Barack Obama." Of course celebrating diversity is a good thing. But there is no record of this school doing a similar thing for George W. Bush four or eight years ago. Our government-run schools often forget the First Amendment is reserved for us, the people, not for the state to dictate our conscious. ...

    Spending Spree

    By Greg McNeilly

In lofty camera-covered statements, Barack Obama promised no-nonsense, focused efforts to fix our economy. Behind closed doors, he threatened Congress to give him the big check. And in reality, it appears taxpayers are going to get soaked once again. Look at the proposed Democrat spending spree: Here. Sold as relief, it also packs pounds of pure pork spending meant to enhance every form of political payoff a Lefty could want. Previously, some of the highlights were noted. Now more have come to light: -- $6 billion for higher education modernization. Go Ivory Tower! -- $6 billion to provide ...
