Ads Not Adding Up

Ads Not Adding Up

Redstate's California Yankee has an article up about the DNC attack ad I mentioned here yesterday. The entire controversy surrounds the Hundred Years Roar I've blogged about several times here at Political Machine. It seems that the non-partisan FactCheck.org has looked into the new DNC ad and found it, and another DNC ad, factually wanting. "The ad twists the sense of McCain's words by showing images of war, when he was really talking about a peaceful troop presence. Imagine how different the ad would seem if it showed images of, say, American troops walking the streets of Tokyo or Seoul ...

RNC Challenges Attack Ad

RNC Challenges Attack Ad

In a conference call with reporters and bloggers yesterday, Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan and chief counsel Sean Cairncross discussed the RNC's demand that networks pull a planned DNC ad next week. The RNC has sent letters to the networks and a complaint has been filed with the Federal Election Commission. The ad features the now famous 100 years comments made by Senator McCain during a townhall meeting in January, cut and pasted with scenes of death, destruction and war. ...

McCain Learning Curve: 100 Weeks Too Long

McCain Learning Curve: 100 Weeks Too Long

John McCain's campaign put out a memo this past weekend, urging reporters to check out an op ed piece in The Union Leader regarding the senator's statements on Iraq. On Jan. 3 in Derry, Sen. McCain was asked about President Bush's comment that U.S. forces could be in Iraq for as many as 50 years. Here is McCain's response: "Make it a hundred. . . We've been in Japan for 60 years. We've been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me, as long as American, as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. McCain thinks it would be OK to keep American ...

100 Years Roar II: A New Kind Of Misquote

*UPDATED: Video of Original Comments added Last week I wrote about the flap over Senator McCain's now infamous "100 years" answer to a question about staying in Iraq for fifty years. Although a number of Democrats have cited the comment, I pointed out that Senator Obama in particular had repeatedly made the false assertion that Senator McCain had advocated for 100 years of war in Iraq, and then subsequently said that wasn't what he said ... about what he said ... I said. Once again for clarity, here is Senator McCain's original comment: "Make it a hundred. We've been in Japan for 60 ...

McCain Says Democrats Can't Keep Iraq Promises

By  Mark Impomeni - Politics Daily
McCain Says Democrats Can't Keep Iraq Promises

Just one day before Iraq Commander Gen. David Petraeus testifies before Congress on progress in Iraq, Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain will attack his Democratic rivals, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, for making what McCain will say are empty promises about the war. In a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kansas City, Missouri, McCain will accuse the Democrats of not being able to keep their promises to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq if elected."Our goal is an Iraq that no longer needs American troops. And I believe we can achieve that goal, perhaps sooner ...
