Yet, before too long, the former governor and her devoted followers will face a sobering reality. Should she seek the Republican nomination, she not only will confront several White House-minded candidates in her own party but also the unalterable facts of American political history. To be tactful about the subject: Voters haven't been particularly kind to losing vice-presidential nominees of either party for nearly a century. Interestingly, ...
(July 1) -- Portland police have re-opened an investigation into allegations made last year by a massage therapist that former Vice President Al Gore groped and kissed her and made unwelcome sexual advances in an upscale hotel suite late one night in October 2006. The Portland Police Bureau did not explain why the case was being re-opened, after stating last week there had been insufficient evidence to pursue it. However, in the past seven days, the allegations by masseuse Molly Hagerty, 54, have been trumpeted in a pair of National Enquirer stories. ...
Correction, March 10, 1:16 pm An earlier version of this story mistakenly reported that Rush Limbaugh had threatened to move to Costa Rica if Congress passed health care reform. Instead, Mr. Limbaugh said that he would travel to Costa Rica for medical care if the bill was passed while continuing to reside in this country. (March 9) -- Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has thrown down the gauntlet. If the U.S. Congress passes health care reform, Limbaugh will leave the country to receive his medical treatment. Specifically, Limbaugh told a caller that he envisions traveling to Costa Rica ...
There's bipartisan agreement on at least one thing in Washington this week: There's a whole lot of snow outside. After two paralyzing storms swept through the District in quick succession, the area was blanketed in almost two and a half feet of snow. Climate change skeptics quickly pointed to the winter storms as proof that Al Gore and climate researchers have their facts exactly backward. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), for example, twittered during the storm on Tuesday, "It's going to keep snowing in DC until Al Gore cries 'uncle.'" And Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), on his Facebook page, posted ...
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (Jan. 6) – Another two-ton ice sculpture of former Vice President Al Gore is back in front of a Fairbanks liquor store. "Frozen Gore" is a dig at Gore's beliefs about climate change. The first statue went on display last year. This year's version is hooked up to the exhaust of a pickup truck to make it appear Gore is spouting hot air. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the smoke drew laughs from a crowd Tuesday as a Gore speech on climate change played over a loudspeaker. Frozengore.com For the second year in a row, an ice sculpture of former Vice President Al ...
(Dec. 29) -- The president is always under a microscope, so it's natural that he dominates the news throughout the year. That's especially true for the first year of a young president who was swept into office on the promise of change. But if anyone rivaled President Barack Obama this year when it came to making headlines and consistently eliciting strong reactions from all sides, it was the woman who hoped to be vice president. In many ways, 2009 was the Year of Sarah Palin. Hardly a day went by when Palin wasn't getting some kind of attention – for better or worse – on TV, ...
As if she didn't have enough adversaries, Sarah Palin has decided to mix it up with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ostensibly, the issue was global warming. Actually, it's about the future face of the Republican Party -- whose it will be, and the ideology that person brings to the table. The exchange of criticisms between the ex-governor of Alaska and the current California governor was provoked by comments Schwarzenegger made about Palin at the international summit on climate change in Copenhagen – a conference Palin not only avoided, but called on President Obama to boycott. With that, the ...
COPENHAGEN (Dec. 14) -- Al Gore has told the U.N. climate conference that new data suggests the Arctic polar ice cap may disappear in the summertime as soon as five to seven years from now. Clicking through a slide show Monday in a packed side event, the former U.S. vice president joined the foreign ministers of Norway and Denmark in presenting two new reports on melting Arctic ice. The Arctic Ocean sea ice has shrunk dramatically, to record low levels, the past several summers. Scientists blame global warming, which has raised temperatures twice as fast in the far north as elsewhere. ...
Politics were the talk of the weekend on "Saturday Night Live," hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("Miracle at St. Anna"). The show opened with a sketch featuring Chinese President Hu Jintao calling out Barack Obama on the vast sums the U.S. government owes his country. Later, political moments included the trailer for the recent disaster flick "2012," mashed up with fake news clips announcing Sarah Palin's election to the presidency, and a guest appearance by Al Gore during the "Weekend Update" segment. China Cold Open Trailer: Palin 2012 "Weekend Update": Green Week with Al Gore ...
The White House released a visitor's log late Friday that revealed many of DC's biggest Democratic lobbyists have made frequent visits, despite President Obama's stringent new lobbying rules. The record of visitors also looks like a red carpet list of celebrities and Hollywood movie stars. And CEOs of all those Wall Street banks the government bailed out earlier this year came calling frequently, too. Many of the Democratic lobbyists who frequented the White House this year are also among the highest earning lobbying firms in 2009, including power player Steve Elmendorf of Elmendorf Strategies ...
