Rep. Bobby Bright is high on the GOP's list of vulnerable freshman Democrats in the House. He narrowly won two years ago in the 2nd District, which voted overwhelmingly for John McCain in the presidential race. The state's only other House seat held by a Democrat opened up when 7th District Congressman Artur Davis decided to run for his party's gubernatorial nomination. He lost, but polls indicate the House seat will stay in the blue column. On the Senate side, longtime Republican incumbent Richard Shelby appears assured of winning a fifth term.Robert Bentley, a relatively obscure physician who bills himself as a political outsider, is aiming to keep a Republican in the governor's office. He is running against Democrat Ron Sparks, Alabama's agriculture commissioner. The winner will succeed term-limited Gov. Bob Riley. McCain won Alabama in 2008.
