Republican Joe Miller, a Fairbanks attorney, has served as a magistrate and judge. The West Point graduate was awarded a Bronze Star in the Persian Gulf War. Endorsements from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and the California-based Tea Party Express helped him score a come-from-behind primary victory over GOP establishment-backed incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who got back into the race as a write-in candidate.

Republican Lisa Murkowski, who lost in the primary to Joe Miller, is running for re-election as a write-in candidate. The daughter of former Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski, was elected to the state House in 1998. In 2002, her father appointed her to his U.S. Senate seat after he was elected governor.
