By David Knowles - AOL News(March 17) -- Following Haiti's devastating earthquake, Americans opened their hearts and picked up their cell phones. A tally by The Chronicle of Philanthropy finds that in the nine weeks following the magnitude-7.0 quake that leveled much of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas on Jan. 12, American charities raised nearly $980 million from contributions to support relief efforts in the beleaguered Caribbean nation. By Emily Miller - Politics DailyGeorge Clooney will host a telethon to raise money for rescue and relief efforts for Haiti after the devastating 7.0 earthquake Tuesday. The telethon – which will air 8-10 p.m. Eastern time Jan. 22 on all MTV channels, ABC, NBC, HBO and CNN – will include celebrity appeals from both U.S. coasts. At a party Wednesday night, singer Sting and his wife Trude Styler agreed to be on the program, at Clooney's request.
