Arkansas Elections

Arkansas

Polls indicate Republicans have a good chance of picking up two seats in Arkansas that have been held by Democrats for more than a century. One is Sen. Blanche Lincoln's. The two-term incumbent survived a bruising primary and runoff in which unions spent millions to oppose her. Now she's facing an even stronger challenge, this time from the right, in the form of Republican Rep. John Boozman. The other is the 1st District House seat, which Lincoln held in the mid-90's. Marion Berry, who has been the district's congressman since 1997, is not seeking another term. Chad Causey, Berry's former chief of staff, won the Democratic nomination in a June runoff and faces Republican Rick Crawford in November. The GOP also expects a pickup in the 2nd District, as Republican Tim Griffin takes on Democrat Joyce Elliott for the seat Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder is giving up after seven terms.Gov. Mike Bebee, a Democrat, is favored to beat Republican challenger Jim Keet. McCain won Arkansas in 2008
