Last week, a sad young woman perpetrated a hoax on America, claiming to have been attacked further by her mugger after he discovered her McCain affiliations. Her hoax was covered mostly by right wing bloggers like yours truly. Since then we've found out a lot about the young woman, including her sordid Ron Paul tale. We found out she is a liar, and we found out she was willing to hurt many people for yet to be understood reasons. (Tommy Christopher and I have covered the topic extensively this weekend on our blogtalkradio show Unusable Signal.) We learned other things as well. The left media ...
OK so a lot of people, including myself and even the McCain campaign itself, were punked by Ashley Todd. Not good. And yes we've had a lot of posts on this subject, but let me add one more and trust me, there is a payoff at the end:From the Post-Gazette: Once she had told the story to police, "she told lie after lie and the situation compounded to where we are right now," said Lt. Kraus. He added that Ms. Todd showed no remorse for her actions but was angry with the media, saying they blew the story out of proportion. ... Ms. Todd's job as a field representative for the College Republican ...
Here's Brian Williams on the claim (as Tommy reported earlier) that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign pushed the phony, politically motivated mutilation story from the very start. So, the questions now, as with all with all "Gate" stories, are: What did McCain's people know, and when did they know it? The campaign denies it spread the story. Reports the day after the alleged incident have John McCain and Sarah Palin both calling Ashley Todd's family to express their support. That was, of course, before the whole story fell apart. ...
Looks like I spoke too soon.TPM is reporting that, in the early stages of the Ashley Todd fake attack story, the McCain campaign's Pennsylvannia communications director was pushing unconfirmed details to the media.John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson." Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had ...
Being a true liberal, I always try to see things from the other person's point of view, and perhaps gain some empathy and insight in the process. It is with this in mind that I consider the case of Ashley Todd, who faked a report to police about being attacked and mutilated by a huge, dyslexic, but kinda skinny, black Barack Obama supporter. Sure, there are some negatives to this story. Granted, she was likely trying to incite racial hatred in order to get John McCain elected. True, she probably saw this as "her" moment, ready for the proverbial Mr. DeMille to swing in tight. Had her story been ...
Update: KDKA reports that Ashley Todd is in custody, facing charges. She admits there was no robbery, but claims she doesn't remember how the backwards "B" got on her face. I can help out with this one: You put it there! She also is claiming a history of mental problems, a likely precursor to a criminal defense. The helpful Twitter updates, which put a nice red bow on her story, might make that defense hard to swallow.Update: Pittsburgh's KDKA is reporting that Ashley Todd admits her story about being attacked and mutilated by an apparent Obama supporter was a hoax: Police sources tell KDKA ...
The Drudge Report was in full ambulance-chaser mode last night when, as Tommy Christopher reported, they ran with a suspicious story about a woman being mugged and mutilated for her pro-McCain views. This story ran like wildfire through the right wing blogosphere, including here at Political Machine, serving as proof that, while McCain's supporters may occasionally shout out violent epithets at campaign rallies, Obama's followers (as exemplified by a black street criminal acting on his own accord) are much, much worse. You know you're in scary territory when Michele Malkin is the voice of ...
As reported earlier by Caleb Howe, McCain volunteer Ashley Todd has told police that she was attacked and mugged at knifepoint, and that the attacker carved a backwards letter "B" on her cheek when he saw her McCain bumper sticker. The Political Machine has discovered that the victim apparently posted Twitter updates, apparently minutes before the attack. * atodd: Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers- I'm phonebanking so let's all work together and get John McCain elected #litf08 Thu, 23 Oct 2008 18:55:41 +0000 * atodd: Oh the blog I will be making soon... Its been a rough night ...
McCain/Palin comments on the volunteer Ashley Todd attack:In an official statement the McCain campaign says: "We're shaken up by this. It's sick and disgusting." Governor Sarah Palin reportedly spoke with the victim by phone. Meanwhile, late this afternoon, the Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, saying: "This is a horrendous act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."I can only echo what Caleb Howe said earlier. There have been ...
