BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (Dec. 3) - President Barack Obama told U.S. troops during a surprise holiday-season visit that they are making important progress in the war, and he pledged that Afghanistan would never again be a "safe haven for terrorists" who want to attack the United States. "You will succeed in your mission," Obama told more than 3,500 cheering troops in a huge hangar. "We said we were going to break the Taliban's momentum. That's what you're doing. Guards Beheaded in Afghan Bank Heist, Police Say
By not in system - AOL NewsKABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 3) -- Six Afghan private security guards were beheaded during a bank robbery in northern Afghanistan, police said Tuesday. Meanwhile, insurgents launched a ground attack on NATO's largest base in the south, but did not breach its defenses, officials said. It appeared that the security guards were poisoned before they were beheaded, said Sherjan Durani, a police spokesman for Balkh province.
