Plea Deals Said to Be Rejected by Bell, Calif., Officials in Corruption Case

Prosecutors have offered plea deals to six current and former City Council members in Bell, Calif., if they plead guilty to charges of misappropriating $1.2 million in public money, The Los Angeles Times reported Monday. All six are said to have rejected the offer. The report of the offer for a plea bargain came as the six -- Oscar Hernandez, Teresa Jacobo, George Mirabal, Luis Artiga, George Cole and Victor Bello -- were beginning preliminary hearings on whether prosecutors have enough evidence to bind them over for trial.
