Bush's Cabinet, is headed off to prison. U.S. District Judge Stephen C. Robinson today sentenced Kerik to four years in prison on eight felonies, including lying to the White House and filing false taxes. The term, handed down in federal court in White Plains, N.Y., exceeded the 27 to 33 months the prosecution recommended under a plea agreement hammered out in November. "I think it's fair to say that with great ...
Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who was once a candidate for head of the Department of Homeland Security, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for eight felonies, including tax fraud and lying to White House officials. Kerik, who pleaded guilty in November, has already been ordered to pay $188,000 in restitution and past-due taxes and penalties on six years of tax returns. Kerik, 54, apologized before being sentenced and asked the judge to "allow me to return to my wife and two little girls as soon as possible," The Associated Press reported. As New York's ...
Dear Politics Daily: I recently lost my job as head of a small but strategically placed East Coast state and am considering my professional and personal prospects for the future. I entered public service relatively late in life after a successful career in finance that ended on an uncomfortable note but nevertheless left me well fixed monetarily. I used a pile of the cash I made to run for office but after winning a job in Washington, my marriage of three decades ended with public accusations from my ex that nearly cost me an election. The next relationship with a high-profile supporter ...
(Nov. 5) -- Bernard Kerik, the former police commissioner of New York City whose meteoric rise to the national spotlight was matched only by his even faster fall, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to eight felony counts that included lying to the White House and tax crimes. The plea agreement calls for a sentence of up to nearly three years. "It is a sad day when the former chief law enforcement officer of New York City pleads guilty to eight federal felonies," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a prepared statement. Lawrence Kobilinsky, an acquaintance of Kerik and a forensics ...
As if Bernard Kerik's indictment, employing a priest who has faced allegations of child sex abuse and new allegations of hiding security costs incurred during adulterous trysts with future wife Judith Nathan, three marriages and pro-abortion, pro-gay rights and anti-gun stances weren't enough for Republican conservatives to stomach, now come new allegations of Rudy's involvement with some of the very "Islamic Terrorists" he promises to quash if elected President of 9/11. Mr. Giuliani has had a long and involved relationship with Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah al-Thani since right after 9/11 and ...
By this point in our history, any candidate for any office knows that they're judged by the company they keep. And Rudy's two-decade long relationship with Bernard Kerik is a great example of how a personal and political association can cause a candidate and his campaign staff grief. Federal prosecutors are wrapping up their investigation of Kerik and the results, expected as early as next month, could wind up with Bernie facing multiple felony charges including bribery, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, providing false information and conspiracy to eavesdrop. Kerik had earlier rejected a ...
Monsignor Alan Placa, the priest who presided over the wedding of Rudy Giuliani and Donna Hannover, stands accused of repeatedly sexually molesting at least three boys at his former parish. Amid the controversy, Placa stepped down from his duties at the Long Island Catholic diocese, but he did not have much trouble finding work. According to ABC News:Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani hired a Catholic priest to work in his consulting firm months after the priest was accused of sexually molesting two former students and an altar boy and told by the church to stop performing his priestly ...
