Voter Lawsuit Filed in Arkansas' Blanche Lincoln, Bill Halter Senate Runoff

A lawsuit on behalf of three Arkansas voters against the Garland County Election Commission was filed late Tuesday afternoon, adding a dramatic twist to Tuesday's runoff between incumbent Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Lt. Governor Bill Halter for the Democratic Senate nomination. The lawsuit, filed by Hot Springs attorney Ben Hooten, states that the commission intentionally scheduled only two polling sites for "the purpose of disenfranchising " minority, elderly, poor and disabled voters in the county. It also says that "the greater part of the voting electorate are unable to find or reach" the...

Blanche Lincoln vs. Bill Halter in Round Two of Arkansas Senate Fight

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – This Race is About Arkansas, Not Outside Groups. That's U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln's mantra as she gears up for a June 8 Democratic runoff with Lt. Gov. Bill Halter. Neither candidate received 50 percent of the primary vote, guaranteeing three more weeks of testy campaigning. Lincoln received 44.3 percent to Halter's 42.5 percent. The third candidate, DC Morrison, who aligned more with the Tea Party than with Democrats, garnered a stunning13 percent. A Democracy for American / Research 2000 poll after the primary showed Halter with 48 percent and Lincoln with 46 percent....

Democrats Lincoln, Halter Head to Senate Runoff in Arkansas

And the winner in the Arkansas Democratic primary for U.S. Senate is... Stay tuned. Neither Sen. Blanche Lincoln nor Lt. Gov. Bill Halter got enough votes to win the nomination, so a runoff election will be held June 8. The winner of that contest will face Rep. John Boozman in November. He emerged from a field of seven other candidates to claim the Republican Senate nomination outright. Here's a look at the possible general election scenarios. Lincoln vs. Boozman --The two Washington insiders tackle each other in an anti-incumbent electoral climate. During the primary, Lincoln, a moderate...

Arkansas Republican John Boozman Wins Senate Primary, Avoids Runoff

Arkansas Republican John Boozman Wins Senate Primary, Avoids Runoff

In the last days of his campaign, Arkansas Republican Rep. John Boozman flew around the state to bolster his bid for the GOP Senate nomination against seven other candidates. It paid off. Boozman received enough votes Tuesday to avoid a runoff election, saving himself and his party a potentially bruising Round Two. A runoff between the top two vote-getters would have cost Republicans time, money, and energy, and may have turned more negative than the primary. The good news for Republicans is that they now have a real chance of winning a U.S. Senate seat that has been held by Democrats...

Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln's Voting Day Snafu

Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln's Voting Day Snafu

Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln's Election Day vote in her primary contest against Lt. Gov. Bill Halter probably won't be counted right away. That's because she had to cast a provisional ballot Tuesday when she arrived, with her husband and twin sons, at the gothic St. James United Methodist Church in Little Rock to vote. CNN's Dana Bash, a camera crew, and a team of Washington reporters were there to document every minute. Prior to Election Day, she had requested an absentee ballot, something she said she does every year in order to vote in smaller elections like school board. She said...

Blanche Lincoln, Bill Halter Likely Face Run-Off After Primary in Arkansas

By  Suzi Parker - Politics Daily
Blanche Lincoln, Bill Halter Likely Face Run-Off After Primary in Arkansas

Long before Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln drew two Democratic primary opponents, she was in the crosshairs of a wide array of political foes. From the right, Arkansas Tea Partiers singled her out at their December Christmas bash by chanting "Bye, Bye Blanche." On her left were a multitude of critics: The AFL-CIO targeted Lincoln for her wishy-washy position on the "card check" bill that would have made it easier for unions to organize workplaces. (She initially sponsored the bill, then opposed it.) Health care overhaul advocates loathed Lincoln for her indecisiveness and lack of support...

Arkansas Primary: Boozman, Other Republicans Look Strong; Sen. Lincoln Faces Dem Challenge

Arkansas Primary: Boozman, Other Republicans Look Strong; Sen. Lincoln Faces Dem Challenge

Most of the attention surrounding the upcoming Arkansas Senate race has focused on the May 18 Democratic primary between Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Lieutenant Gov. Bill Halter. It makes sense – Lincoln is the incumbent and she is being challenged by the sitting lieutenant governor of her state. With the national "netroots" and progressive movement supporting her opponent, she has stepped up her legislative game with an aggressive derivatives policy to rein in some Wall Street trading practices. What's more, the race is getting nasty, with a recent TV ad attacking Halter being labeled...

Blanche Lincoln Holds Modest Lead Over Bill Halter in Arkansas Primary Race

As Tuesday's primary approaches, Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln is leading Lt. Gov. Bill Halter 46 percent to 37 percent with 6 percent for another candidate and 11 percent undecided, according to a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll conducted May 10-12. The margin of error is 4 points. That's roughly the same margin as in the previous Research 2000 poll, although each of them have picked up two points of support as the number of undecideds start to go down. On the Republican side, Rep. John Boozman is way ahead of three other contenders with 46 percent. The closest candidate to him is Jim Holt who...

Should Blanche Lincoln Return WellPoint Donations?

Should Blanche Lincoln Return WellPoint Donations?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas has always been a champion for women's health care. Just last month, she introduced legislation that would ensure Medicare coverage of custom-fabricated breast prostheses, which are a lower-cost alternative to reconstructive surgery, which has additional risks and higher costs. But since 2001, Lincoln has also accepted $12,500 from a PAC for Indiana-based WellPoint, one of the nation's largest health insurance companies, which is currently under fire by the Obama administration. In his weekly radio address last weekend, President Barack...
