McCollum Facing Big Challenge to Bid for GOP Governor Nod in Florida

Until recently, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum looked like he had a lock on the GOP gubernatorial nomination, but the sudden entrance of multi-millionaire health care executive Rick Scott in mid-April has caused McCollum's 64 percent support in the primary contest drop to 38 percent, according to a Mason-Dixon poll reported by Florida newspapers Saturday. Florida Governor's Race Tightens a Bit

The Florida governor's race has tightened just a bit with Republican Bill McCollum leading Democrat Alex Sink 45 percent to 38 percent with 7 percent preferring another choice and 10 percent undecided, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted April 15. The margin of error is 4.5 points. In Rasmussen's previous survey in March, McCollum had led by 47 percent to 36 percent. Republican Bill McCollum, Florida's attorney general, leads Democrat Alex Sink, the state's chief financial officer, by 4 points in their race for governor, a much smaller margin than reported by a Florida newspapers poll in late March, according to a Quinnipiac University survey conducted April 8-13. McCollum is ahead by 40 percent to 36 percent, with 21 percent undecided. Florida's Republican attorney general, Bill McCollum, is leading Democrat Alex Sink, the state's chief financial officer, by 49 percent to 34 percent in the race for governor, according to a Mason-Dixon Research poll conducted March 23-25 for Florida newspapers.
