Rick Perry has opened a 15 point lead over Democrat Bill White, the former mayor of Houston, after being only 4 points ahead of him last month in the Texas governor's race, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted May 13. Perry is ahead of White by 51 percent to 38 percent with 4 percent preferring some other candidate and 6 percent undecided. In mid-April, his lead had been 48 percent to 44 percent. Rick Perry is leading with 45 percent in the race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison at 21 percent and Tea Party-favorite Debra Medina close behind at 19 percent. Sixteen percent are undecided. The poll, conducted Feb. 1-7 by the University of Texas for the Texas Tribune, said that if the undecideds had to make a choice, 51 percent would go with Perry, 34 percent for Hutchison and 15 percent for Medina.
