Falcons Weren't Overrated -- They Were Overmatched

Falcons Weren't Overrated -- They Were Overmatched

ATLANTA -- They couldn't put anything worse on the Falcons' tombstone for the 2010 season. It will hurt when the word is etched into stone and then burned into their resume by some people. It will absolutely be painful to hear. "Overrated." You know it's coming. The Falcons came into the NFC playoff game with the Packers here Saturday night with a 13-3 record, but dragging a ball-and-chain called doubt. They won so many close games that they lacked the look of a dominant team and it was held against them. Then they went out and got hammered by the Packers, 48-21. But overrated is too easy ...

Oakland Upsets No. 7 Tennessee

Oakland Upsets No. 7 Tennessee

For No. 7 Tennessee, an upset at home at the hands of Oakland following a win over then-No. 3 Pittsburgh would be quite the unlikely outcome. For Oakland, the third time would be the charm. And it was, in an 89-82 victory. The Golden Grizzlies were playing a ranked opponent away from home for the third time in the past six days. Last Wednesday, they hung with then-No. 16 Illinois for most of the game and ended up losing by 11. Saturday, in Detroit, they lost by just one to then-No. 7 Michigan State. Tuesday night, Oakland handed Tennessee its first loss of the season. The Volunteers ...

FanHouse Top 30: No. 17 Tennessee

No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers (28-9, 11-5 in the SEC) In: G Trae Golden, F Tobias Harris, G Jordan McRae, G Tyler Summitt, F John Fields (gradute student transfer), Jeronne Maymon (transfer), F Rob Murphy (transfer) Out: F Wayne Chism, G Bobby Maze, F J.P. Prince The last thing Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl wanted to deal with in the offseason was another scandal. After he suspended four players in January after they were hit with drug and gun charges, a quiet, trouble-free period would have been just what the doctor ordered. Then in August, the school announced the NCAA was investigating its ...

Study: Pakistanis Actually Favor CIA Drone Bombings

Study: Pakistanis Actually Favor CIA Drone Bombings

(Oct. 13) -- During the George W. Bush years, the CIA knew that the tribal regions of northwest Pakistan were a haven for al-Qaida and the Taliban. And yet the CIA once went eight months without bombing these regions with its unmanned drones, for fear of reprisal from the locals. Contrast that with President Barack Obama. Last month, these same unmanned planes bombed five targets a week in tribal Pakistan. The attacks, the U.S. government argues, are working; reports have shown that al-Qaida's senior management in Pakistan has basically been wiped out, including one of Osama bin Laden's sons ...

SEC Summer Session: Basketball Finally Overtakes Bad Press

SEC Summer Session: Basketball Finally Overtakes Bad Press

The SEC needs basketball season to start 10 minutes from yesterday like Tiger Woods needs a time machine. Blow a whistle, tip a ball. Heck, roll a football out there and start chucking it up. Anything to get basketball season underway in the SEC. Since the league's season ended with a pair of Elite Eight losses by Tennessee and Kentucky, it's been an offseason somewhere between Watergate and Waterworld (with Bruce Pearl chipping in the waterworks for good measure). Even by SEC standards, a league with no small amount of experience with investigative bodies, it was an offseason of ...

Kornheiser Banned; What's It Take to Get Him Canned?

Viewers of ESPN's talk show, PTI, will have to pardon the interruption of co-host Tony Kornheiser's television career, as he has been suspended for remarks he made about SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm on his Washington radio show. Kornheiser, who was replaced this year by Jon Gruden in the Monday Night Football booth, said last week Storm, who co-hosts the mid-morning SportsCenter, was wearing a "horrifying, horrifying outfit" and a "very, very tight shirt," adding that she "looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body." A number of blogs and media outlets are reporting ...
