Now that's some mammoth discovery. The skull and tusks of a 2 million-year-old elephant relative -- a mastodon -- have been unearthed in Chile. Construction workers building a hydroelectric power plant near the Chilean capital of Santiago dug up 4-foot-long, 6-inch-wide tusks as well as the first complete mastodon skull found in the South American country, the Daily Mail reports. "When we were in the excavation process, we were aware that the bone continued," said Rafael Labarca of Chile's PDI Institute. "Practically the whole skull complete and in perfect condition, with its four molars and ...

LIMA, Peru -- Joran van der Sloot plans to plead guilty to killing a young Peruvian woman he met gambling but will argue temporary insanity in a bid to significantly shorten his sentence, his defense lawyer said Monday. Six days after he was rescued, his son, also named Richard, was born. Today the elder Richard seemed to find it hard to believe that he, his wife, Dana, and their baby were in the Holy Land. "It is really a dream to be here and to see the Jordan River, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall," he told AOL News after a tiring, 16-hour flight from Chile to Israel. The shaking is back. Almost one year after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake caused massive destruction in Chile on Feb. 28, another strong quake was registered today. The epicenter was just off shore, about 245 miles south-southwest of Santiago, but was powerful enough to shake buildings in the capital city. As yet there have been no reports of damage or injuries from today's quake, which was centered not far from the one that killed about 500 people a year ago. Follow Surge Desk on Twitter. ...

The men survived for 17 days by carefully rationing their meager emergency supply of food and water. They were down to their last can of tuna when rescue crews discovered they were still alive half a mile below the surface of the Atacama Desert. Miner ...
