Lawyer: Colorado Woman Will Admit Aiding Terror Cell

PHILADELPHIA -- A woman described as a troubled single mother will plead guilty to a terrorism conspiracy charge Tuesday, her lawyer said, becoming the rare American-born woman to admit plotting with foreign terrorists. Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 32, of Leadville, Colo., faces up to 15 years in prison. An April indictment charges that she accepted an invitation from co-defendant Colleen LaRose to move to Ireland to help work toward a Muslim holy war. Paulin-Ramirez arrived in Ireland on Sept. 11, 2009, and married an Algerian terrorism suspect the same day. Defense lawyer Jeremy Ibrahim called ...

Colleen LaRose, 47, faces the possibility of life in prison after pleading guilty to four federal charges, including conspiracy to murder a foreign target, conspiracy to support terrorists and lying to the FBI. LaRose, who spent long hours caring for the father, was also building ...

American Woman, 'Jihad Jane,' Pleads Not Guilty to Terror Charges

Jihad Jane says she's innocent. The Pennsylvania woman, real name Colleen R. LaRose, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that she recruited men on the Internet to take part in terrorist activities in Europe and southern Asia. Wearing a green jumpsuit with her hair in cornrows, LaRose entered her plea in a Philadelphia courtroom to charges of conspiracy and vowing to commit murder, the New York Times reported. She was allegedly plotting to kill a Swedish cartoonist named Lars Vilks for drawing an offensive caricature of the prophet Muhammad. LaRose, 46, was arrested in October after ...

What Begets a Blond, Blue-Eyed Terror Suspect?

In a socially acceptable version of her life, Colleen Renee LaRose, the alleged modern-day Mata Hari of the Internet, who was charged with four federal crimes Tuesday, would have been more successful and happy as a reality-show contestant. Instead, to her deep discredit, the Pennsburg, Pa., woman with too much time on her hands allegedly turned to do-it-yourself jihadism. ...

'JihadJane' and Femme Fatale Fascination

(March 10) -- Colleen LaRose, a suburban Philadelphia woman, was indicted Tuesday for allegedly recruiting terrorists online and moving to Europe to try to kill a Swedish cartoonist who had depicted Islam's Prophet Muhammad as a dog. LaRose, who went by the online handle "JihadJane," is not of Middle Eastern extraction, though she converted to Islam. But what's more notable is what the indictment -- as well as other recent arrests -- does to challenge societal assumptions about women and violence. It was only a few weeks ago that neuroscientist Amy Bishop was arrested after allegedly killing ...
