Quinn Poses Greatest Risk for Democrats of Losing Illinois Governor's Seat

The Republicans and Democrats in Illinois have yet to go through primaries to choose their candidates for governor, but general election match-ups indicate that the GOP has the best chance of taking the seat if the Democrat is incumbent Pat Quinn, according to a Public Policy Polling survey conducted Jan. 22-25. A Public Policy Polling survey of the Illinois governor and senate races pretty much mirrors a Chicago Tribune/WGN poll released yesterday: tight races among the Democratic and Republican hopefuls for their parties' gubernatorial nominations, while Democrat Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Mark Kirk are comfortably ahead of their contenders for the Senate nods. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and state Comptroller Dan Hynes are running neck-and-neck in the contest for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, while three Republicans are bunched up in the race for their party's nod, according to a Chicago Tribune/WGN poll conducted Jan. 16-20.
