WWE Star Undertaker Healing, Hopes to Be at WrestleMania

WWE superstar The Undertaker is rehabbing his injured shoulder and hopes to make a return in time for WrestleMania XVII on April 2, according to Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net. The Undertaker has been sidelined since the Survivor Series on Nov. 21 when he lost a Buried Alive Match against Kane. Prior to that show, he had already hurt his shoulder but worked through it. Following the event, he had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, which was much more extensive than first hoped. The timetable for his return by his surgeon was 4-6 months, but he is hoping to be back sooner. He was ...

Boxing Remains Sweet, Has MMA Beat

Boxing Remains Sweet, Has MMA Beat

If Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito staged an MMA fight this weekend, fans would tear down Cowboys Stadium. They are coming to see a boxing match, not a street brawl. There is a difference. Boxers are highly trained athletes who engage in a technically sophisticated sport. MMA fighters are entertaining. But as much as I respect the skill it takes to toss somebody through a glass window, I prefer the human chess match that is boxing. Of course, I also prefer Don King's hair to Dana White's. The MMA's advantage is that White is a much better promoter/dictator than the bouillabaisse of ...

Dana White Says There Won't Be a Brock Lesnar-Undertaker Match

Well, so much for all that talk. Over the past 48 hours, message boards on wrestling and MMA websites haven been running rampant with talk about a possible Brock Lesnar-Undertaker showdown at WrestleMania 27 following their staredown at UFC 121. However, UFC president Dana White quickly but the kibosh on that thought. "Brock Lesnar is still under contract with the UFC ... he is not going to wrestle in the WWE. He cannot wrestle, box or fight anywhere else," White told TMZ.com. You could understand why White would not allow his top draw to go back to wrestling, even for one ...

Staredown May Mean Much More Between Brock Lesnar and Undertaker

Staredown May Mean Much More Between Brock Lesnar and Undertaker

There were four words uttered at the conclusion of UFC 121 that has the both the MMA and wrestling communities buzzing: "You wanna do it?" That was what The Undertaker had to say to Brock Lesnar as he left the Octagon just moments after losing the UFC Heavyweight Championship. It was a moment frozen in time and caught during an interview with Ariel Helwani for all to see on video. It was brief. It was tense. It was simple. It was also money. So money. Money for the WWE that is. Report: WWE Offered Lesnar a Deal to Face Undertaker at WrestleMania During that quick moment, the seed was ...

Floyd Mayweather Defends His Drawing Power

Floyd Mayweather Defends His Drawing Power

About nine days before Floyd Mayweather ended a 21-month retirement with a September 19, 2009, unanimous decision over WBA and WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, his former promoter, Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, ripped him as "a fighter who stinks his opponent out," who, "doesn't engage," and, "fights scared." "He's a great defensive fighter, but people don't want to spend money watching a defensive fighter," said Arum, who called Mayweather "a tremendous talent." "Mayweather will not engage an opponent, and that makes a stinking fight," said Arum. "And if people are being asked to ...

Weekend's Biggest Fight? Boxing vs. Mixed Martial Arts

Somewhere during the broadcast Thursday night of the Miami-Georgia Tech football game, a commercial broke across the screen advertising UFC 103, a mixed martial arts fight card featuring somebody named Vitor Belfort against some guy named Rich Franklin. For a pay-per-view price of $44.99, it stated, I could see it all live Saturday night from Dallas starting at 9 PM ET. http://xml.channel.aol.com/xmlpublisher/fetch.v2.xml?option=expand_relative_urls&dataUrlNodes=uiConfig,feedConfig,localizationConfig,entry&id=723507&pid=723506&uts=1253333175 ...

McCain Hosts Gala for 'Human Cockfighter'

McCain Hosts Gala for 'Human Cockfighter'

It's funny how perceptions erode with time. See back in 1998, grumpy old Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) decried the eminently classy Ultimate Fighting Championship as "human cockfighting." Needless to say, this comparison was way off. While it is true that both "sports" occur in cages and involve copious quantities of blood, everyone knows that cockfighting roosters are expressly forbidden from using the "ground and pound."Now flash forward to March 18, 2009, when the Armed Forces Foundation hosted a congressional gala to honor (among others) the chief human cockfighter himself, UFC president Dana ...

UFC President Dana White on MMA in the Olympics: 'I Hope I'm Alive to See It'

I spoke to UFC President Dana White today at an event to promote UFC 90, and with the Olympics going on, I asked him what he thinks of the possibility that mixed martial arts will one day be an Olympic sport. He thinks it can happen."I hope I'm alive to see it," White said. "I don't think it's going to happen soon, but then again I thought it was going to take longer than it did for us to get where we are today. ... There's still a lot of work to be done, but seeing mixed martial arts in the Olympics would be incredible."White said that although the UFC doesn't scout the Olympics looking for ...

Randy Couture: All UFC Fighters Combined Make Less Than Floyd Mayweather

Former UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture was a guest on the Opie and Anthony Show with, of all people, Pat Cooper, and he discussed payment for mixed martial arts fighters (Warning, foul language):(Via MMA Mania) When asked if the money is getting better, Couture said, "I think that's one of the things that needs to change in our sport." Couture then added that every single UFC fighter combined makes less money for all of the organization's pay-per-view shows than Floyd Mayweather makes for one boxing match. (Mayweather is the second-highest-paid boxer in the world; Oscar De La Hoya is ...
