Spitzer Drops Controversial Plan
By Jay Allbritton - Politics DailyEarlier this week, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer ended his efforts to grant drivers licenses to illegal immigrants in the state because of "strong opposition" to the plan. At a press conference, Spitzer said, "It does not take a stethoscope to hear the pulse of New Yorkers on this topic." In October, at a Democratic Presidential debate in Philadelphia moderator Tim Russert asked Senator Hillary Clinton about her assertion that the plan made a lot of sense. "Why does it make a lot of sense," Russert asked, "to give an illegal immigrant a driver's license?" ...
