Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! In April, The New York Times reported that the pentagon used retired military officers, so called "message force multipliers," to generate positive news coverage by echoing Bush administration positions on Iraq and Afghanistan. On Friday, Congress passed an amendment to the military authorization bill that would mandate an investigation into whether the program violated laws prohibiting the government from funding domestic propaganda. The investigations will be conducted by the Department of Defense's inspector general's office and the Government Accountability Office. Republican ...
This year we had Sam Brownback, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Alan Keyes, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, Fred Thompson, and John McCain all enter the race to be the next Republican nominee. And now they are all out but McCain. Keyes is Keyes of course, always running never winning and never doing anything really useful in the meantime. Tancredo, Hunter, and Paul all proved the truism that you cannot run for president as a US House Representative. Governor is great, Senate is OK, A victorious Military General is best. House of Representatives is no can do. And that's ...
Duncan Hunter was one of the third or fourth tier candidates and dropped out immediately after South Carolina. Utterly predictable since congressmen never ever get to be president. But what is interesting is that he turned around to endorse Huckabee: Hunter continued, "Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee." Hunter was and is a conservative through and through and hit all ...

I spoke briefly with Hunter's spokesman Bob Bevill, who said the candidate spent most of his time in recent weeks dispelling rumors that his campaign was already toast. The loss in the Silver State today was the nail in the coffin. "The media has a 'vote someone off the island' mentality and Duncan Hunter was a casualty of that," Bevill said. ...
