Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Dear Crystal, Win, girl, win! Single momma; soul sister; street child. Crystal Bowersox, you've won me over. For the first time in nine seasons, I'm an "American Idol" fan, and it's all because of you. Before you, I'd never turned on the program, never cared if starmaker Simon Cowell stayed or left the show, never knew if he was grumpy or nice. Never watched Paula Abdul, never noticed she was gone. (Though, if I'm honest, I do love Ellen. Of course.) I got to know Kelly Clarkson when she had hit songs, not when she sang for Fox's live audiences. I never called in. I knew Ryan Seacrest ...
"Ellen is a much more likable personality than Oprah," according to newly released media research commissioned months ago by Warner Brothers, the company that produces "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." In a post-Oprah daytime, a new diva must be crowned, and Ellen is the heir apparent. But apparently Warner Brothers didn't want anybody to know about the talk show host's obvious meteoric rise (Hello? "American Idol") because TV executives are suddenly "sensitive about comparisons of the two women." Since DeGeneres appeared with Winfrey on the cover of O Magazine the very same month the talk-show ...
If you channel surf any, I'm sure you have seen at least promos for the ABC show, Wipeout. The website for the show describes it as the "world's largest extreme obstacle course designed to provide the most spills, face plants and wipeouts ever seen on television." Ellen DeGeneres recently invited her two favorite NFL offensive linemen, Ephraim Salaam (Detroit) and Chester Pitts (Houston) to go through the Wipeout obstacle course for her show. Imagine what she would have asked them to do if she didn't like them. (Painful hilarity ensues after the jump)The big guys don't fare so well. I'm not ...
From HuffPo:Portia De Rossi appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night and talked about being a teenage model and her new show "Better Off Ted." She also brought with her a new PSA she made about gay marriage. Here's the video:I really loved the thing about the dog.The California Supreme Court is currently considering overturning Proposition 8, the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage, but progressive groups have already taken steps toward another anti-Prop 8 solution: A repeal, by referendum, of the measure in 2010: ...
Kurt Warner made a guest spot on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday, and he revealed that he can't dance and he isn't sure if he's going to retire. As guests on Ellen often do, Warner made an awkward attempt at dancing, later explaining, "Some of my teammates came over one Thanksgiving and tried to teach me how to walk it out. That's all I got." As for the interview, the best exchange was this one:Ellen: "Do you get really scared when you have the ball and they hike it to you?"Warner: "Not so much when they hike it to me, but when my guy's not open, and I have to run and do something with it, ...
John McCain has tiptoed around the issue of gay adoption enough this month, but he's finally taken a mighty, manly stand against these pantywaist kids, littering our orphanages, driving the other waifs mad with their constant warbling of showtunes. Excuse me...(hand to earpiece)...oh, the parents...got it. John McCain is right to keep our orphan population out of the hands of the gays. We were all shocked when his spokesperson said this earlier this month: However, as an adoptive father himself...he recognizes that there are many abandoned children who have yet to find homes. McCain believes ...
Two major developments in New York and California have thrust the issue of same-sex marriage back into the political spotlight. First, California's Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on gay marriage, saying it violated the California Constitution. Second, yesterday, New York's governor directed all of his state's agencies to begin recognizing same-sex marriages performed in places, like California, where the practice is legal. While California's court decision will be tested in November with a ballot initiative to amend the state's constitution so as to outlaw gay marriage, new polls ...
Welcome to the regular edition of Videos of the Week, Memorial Day Edition. I posted a special VOTW yesterday, rounding up videos related to Hillary Clinton's remarks about Bobby Kennedy's assassination. I won't duplicate any of those here, so check that post out if you missed it.This week on VOTW, John McCain vs. John McCain, then vs. Ellen, a really strict diet, This first clip is unbelievable, as Sharon Stone shows as flawed an understanding of Karma as I've ever seen, but simultaneously refers to the persecution of Tibetans as "not being nice." ...
John McCain appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show today, and things got a little bit awkward when the subject of gay marriage came up. From Huffpo: "We are all the same people, all of us. You're no different than I am. Our love is the same," she said. "When someone says, 'You can have a contract, and you'll still have insurance, and you'll get all that,' it sounds to me like saying, 'Well, you can sit there, you just can't sit there.' "It feels like we are not, you know, we aren't owed the same things and the same wording," DeGeneres said. McCain said he's heard her "articulate that position in ...
I caught up with Houston left tackle Ephraim Salaam at the Texans Draft Luncheon on Tuesday. He was there to accept the Mickey Herskowitz Award for being the most media friendly Texan. The video above is his message to Texan fans, and what he said to the crowd when he accepted his award. (The "Mark" and "Gary" referred to in the video are Texans TE Mark Bruener and coach Gary Kubiak)Ephraim's personality is as big as he is, which given that he goes 6'7" 300ish, means it is huge. Very friendly personable guy. He had a busy offseason of media-friendly duties after he won the Super Bowl NFL ...
