Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! When Elvis Presley released his first album 55 years ago, men wanted to be like him and women wanted to be with him. But that concept has evolved. Now women want to be like Elvis, too. In a sea of thousands of Elvis impersonators, three tribute artists stand out: Jacqueline Feilich of Australia, Laura Baxter Herbert of Massachusetts and Helen Anne Gately of Seattle. These women -- all die-hard Elvis fans -- also moonlight as female Elvis tribute artists, or "ETAs," sporting bejeweled jumpsuits in homage to their all-time favorite singer. ...
Call it the world's smallest -- and smelliest -- Elvis impersonator. A stink bug caught on camera by an amateur wildlife photographer in Singapore has grown the perfect camouflage: It looks like the King. Winston Jansen says he encountered the bug while on an expedition through the island's forests -- and rather than get all shook up over the encounter, he got out his camera. ...
Men constantly working on their cars isn't a new concept, but if that car happens to be a mobile shrine to Elvis Presley, it takes a lot more work than just a little tuneup in the driveway. For the past year, a Seattle-based fine artist known as JoDavid has been slowly transforming his 2001 VW camper van into the Elvis Mobile, a traveling homage to the King complete with a giant mural of Elvis painted on the side and a mini-museum in the trunk. JoDavid told AOL News that the Elvis Mobile -- which, so far, has only traveled around the Seattle area a few times -- began as a labor of love for ...
This country is filled with Elvis Presley tribute artists, but you'll never forget Danny Frasier, because he has the voice and the moves that will remind you of the King -- and he has no legs. Frasier shared the stage with Jim Goldman -- a man with no arms who can hunt, fish, operate power tools and play sports. The two men joined forces on stage in Indianapolis to raise money for a church mission in Tanzania. AOL Weird News takes a look at this amazing show in an interview with Marc Hartzman, who attended the show and filed this report. ...
Danny Frasier of Alabama doesn't let a disability that's left him without legs stop him from driving a Chevy Silverado, leading a full life -- and paying tribute to the great Elvis Presley. AOL Weird News writer Marc Hartzman caught Frasier's performance earlier this month, a fundraiser for an Indianapolis church mission in Tanzania. ...
A lot of people claim Elvis Presley is still alive, so why not give the people what they want? Saturday will mark what would've been Elvis' 76th birthday, and there will be a whole lotta shakin' going on at various events around the world in celebration of the King's life. In Seattle, Elvis wannabes are lining up for the 14th annual Seattle Invitationals for a talent show that crowns the city's best impersonator. But what, exactly, does it take to be a truly beloved Elvis "tribute artist" in today's world? Courtesy of Marlow Harris "Fat Elvis" Jim Dever is a regular hunk a hunk ...
It's that time of year when thoughts turn to holiday bargains, family get-togethers, peace on Earth and, hopefully, good will to all. It's also time to look back at stunning, unusual and downright far-out images of people, places and oddities captured in 2010. Think of AOL Weird News as your one-stop shop to read about and view the most striking and often bizarre images to be seen anywhere. 2010 will be remembered for many newsworthy events, but some of the items that we at AOL News were especially moved by included things like bullfighter Julio Aparicio's face-goring moment, or those naked ...
Like a bad penny that keeps showing up, UFOs have been around on a regular basis from antiquity through modern day. And as 2010 unfolded, the UFO mythology was alive and well. Famed British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, the pope's astronomer, a high-ranking Italian politician and even the late Winston Churchill (according to recently unearthed documents) helped keep UFOs in the news. And sightings of unexplained flying objects came in from all over the world. Let's take a look back at some of the more interesting, strange and funny stories involving UFOs and the possibilities of contact ...
(Sept. 5) -- In the very visual world of daily news, what usually grabs our attention above all else are the stunning images of people, places, events and ideas captured in photographic moments. Throughout the year, AOL News presents the most striking, odd, heart-wrenching, heart-pumping and downright bizarre images to be found anywhere. In a year that has, so far, brought us bullfighter Julio Aparicio's face-goring moment, naked commuters on the London Underground system, and artificial intelligence sex robots, oddities have been the name of the game. And as September begins, we look at ...
(Aug. 24) -- Recently, I was in West Memphis, Ark., at the Riverside International Speedway. The track is the site where many famed drivers, from Richard Petty to Al Unser Sr. to A.J. Foyt, raced along with local legends like Clarence "Hooker" Hood. A young Elvis Presley hung out here in the early 1950s, and Johnny Cash used to perform here as well. The speedway had been chosen by the Hampton Inn Save-A-Landmark program as its 54th North American historic site to be refurbished. As the national spokesman for the 10-year-old program, I was there to speak to both local media and ...
