Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Via Factcheck.org, we are confronted with yet another bogus ad from John McCain. The irony here, is that the ad, titled "Dangerous", accuses Obama of being "dishonorable" while using utterly dishonorable tactics to prove its point. The evidence McCain uses to back up his claim is the following quote from 2007 about the situation in Afghanistan:We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there.Since that time, of course, the United States has followed Obama's ...
Ah, the morning after. You had a reckless blast last night, doing or saying whatever felt good in that moment. Now, it's time to wake up and face facts. You're not really a movie-producing fireman-cop, and she isn't really on the pill. FactCheck.org is the political equivalent of that buzzkill friend who cluelessly salts your game whenever you bring him or her out with you. They have already analyzed last night's Vice Presidential Debate, and although both candidates practiced elasticity of veracity, the winner of the FactCheck Derby was clearly Joe Biden. Just on volume, Biden had fewer ...
The National Rifle Association has been running a harsh TV ad, entitled "Hunter," slamming Obama for supporting "a huge new tax" on guns and wanting to take away hunters' ammo. The only problem is the ad is reportedly filled with falsehoods, even failing the Washington Post's "Pinocchio Test:"While it is true that Obama favors tighter gun laws, it is a huge stretch to argue that he wants to take away the guns and ammunition most commonly used by hunters. The claim that he favors "a huge new tax on guns and ammo" rests on a confusingly worded 9-year-old newspaper article that has little ...
Sen. Barack Obama has been trying to tie rival Sen. John McCain to the financial misdealings on Wall St., saying that McCain is a long-time opponent of increased regulation, which Obama says is responsible for the turmoil in the nation's investments sector. But in what is becoming a daily occurrence for his campaign, Sen. Obama went too far in taking a quote from McCain out of context in an effort to make his point, and has been called on it. Obama claims that McCain is not being genuine in his calls for increased regulation of financial institutions, pointing to a months-old quote from McCain ...
Following up on Christopher Weber's post covering Ron Paul's "viva la revolution" speech (which ought to be translated as "the revolution is over" in political vernacular), FactCheck.org has just posted their first review of Ron Paul's truthfulness. The internet inquisitors over at FactCheck find several faults with Paul's recent statements, but the most egregious seem to be Paul's conspiracy theory claims regarding a NAFTA Superhighway. Apparently, Paul has augured that a spooky consortium of foreign corporations and quasi-governmental organizations are plotting to establish a North American ...
In the wake of John McCain's ascension as the presumptive GOP nominee, heightened scrutiny has attached to whether the continuing Democratic race will help or harm McCain's to-be rival. If the Clinton-Obama race portrays both candidates as noble, responsible servants of the public trust, the continuing spotlight and free publicity could heighten their public exposure and bolster the eventual victor's poll numbers. On the other hand, should the Democratic race turn into a mud-slinging, cut-throat fight to the death, both candidates may find their reputations tarnished and the winner's tactics ...
