Cain, who is the first of the 2012 candidates to form a presidential exploratory committee, won the American Policy Summit's presidential live straw poll on Sunday held by the Tea Party Patriots conference in Phoenix. On Twitter, Cain wrote: "Honored to learn that I won the Tea Party Patriots' presidential straw poll. Thanks for your support!" According to the Cain camp, out of 14 options on the ballot and 1,600 votes, Cain came in first with 22 percent in the straw poll. Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota ...
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- When Herman Cain walks into a tea party event, he is greeted like a rock star. "It's him, it's him," spreads across the meeting room. And so it was here on Thursday. When people approached him, they acted like they knew him. They mentioned his Atlanta radio show. They asked about his book, "They Think You're Stupid." They told him they are curious about his possible 2012 presidential run. Arizona -- with its battles over immigration and its liberal gun laws -- has become something of a poster child for the anti-government movement. Which is why the Tea Party Patriots, the largest tea party group in the country, will hold their American Policy Summit at the Phoenix Convention Center Feb. 25-27. The Tea Party Patriots, which claim more than 3,000 locally organized chapters and more than 15 million supporters nationwide, state on their summit website that they picked Phoenix because the state's tea party invited them and also to support Arizona Gov. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told an Iowa newspaper on Tuesday that the slow-forming 2012 GOP presidential primary field is helping him. As the Des Moines Register reported: " 'The fact that we have not seen a rush to the starting gate in this election cycle has given me an opportunity to really get a little better sense of how the water is,' he said. He said it's giving him time to get some campaign infrastructure into early states, raise money and see how voters respond." Surely, this development (or lack thereof) is a mixed bag. It is both good and bad for dark horse ...
On Wednesday, ex-Godfather's Pizza CEO and popular conservative radio host Herman Cain announced an exploratory committee for president. Today, he spoke with me about his potential run. Cain promises an ambitious agenda if he is elected president, saying: "I plan to mobilize the public -- to not just stop stuff, but to get stuff done." Saying "transparency starts with simplicity," Cain added he will "never sign a 2,700-page bill as president of the United States." While Cain is an unabashed pro-life social conservative who believes in traditional marriage, he clearly sees the economy and ...
After many months of "prayerful consideration," Herman Cain, the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and the conservative host of a popular talk radio show in Georgia, has formed an exploratory committee to run for president as a Republican. The announcement came on his website, where Cain wrote: "The American Dream is under attack. In fact, a recent survey found 67% of the American People believe America is headed in the wrong direction. Sadly, this comes as no surprise to those of us who have watched an out-of-control federal government that spends recklessly, taxes too much and ...
Herman Cain is many things, including an African-American Republican, a former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza, a cancer survivor -- and the host of a popular radio show in Georgia. Recently, a "Draft Cain" movement has emerged, with the goal of drafting Cain into a presidential run. According to Doug Deal, the creator of the "Draft Cain" Facebook page, this is a grassroots effort to "try to help convince him that there's support out there for him." What makes Herman Cain an especially potent force is his charisma, and the fact that his supporters don't just admire him -- they love him. ...
