Idaho

The race with the most suspense on the Idaho ballot is in the 1st Congressional District, where conservative freshman Walt Minnick is fighting to stay in office. He is the only Democrat to be endorsed by the Tea Party Express, but he rejected the group's backing after one of its leaders made racially charged comments in July. Minnick's opponent, state Rep. Raul Labrador, won support from other tea partiers and survived a Republican primary challenge from Vaughn Ward, an Iraq War vet who was backed by GOP insiders and Idaho-born Sarah Palin. One of the most secure Republican Senate seats belongs to Mike Crapo, who's held it since 1999 and is facing a political rookie, Democrat Tom Sullivan, this year.Idaho hasn't had a Democratic governor since 1995 and incumbent Republican Butch Otter is favored to win a second four-year term. McCain won Idaho in 2008.
