Democrat Brad Ellsworth has been a member of the House since 2007. He joined the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department in 1982 and rose through the ranks over two decades. Ellsworth was elected sheriff in 1998 and served two terms.

Dan Coats
Republican Dan Coats served in the U.S. House from 1981-89, when he was appointed to the Senate to replace Dan Quayle, who became vice president. Coats left the Senate in 1999, keeping a promise not to seek another term. He was ambassador to Germany from 2001-05. After leaving the Senate, he also worked as a lobbyist for drug, defense and energy companies, among others.
