House Majority Leader Brian Bosma said he had been informed that Minority Leader Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend, and fellow Democrats would return from their headquarters-in-exile in Urbana, Ill. Democrats were meeting in Illinois on Monday, and a spokesman for the ...

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Jarrod Steffan loaded his kayak with fans and shuttled them across his flooded street Tuesday to begin drying out his house. It was a drill he knew all too well. Floodwaters slowly began to recede after soaking several hundred homes, the third major flood to swamp this northwest Ohio city in the past four years. "You can't do anything but rebuild and go on," Steffan said. The floods were part of the aftermath of storms that swept through the Midwest and South over the past two days, spawning tornadoes and heavy rains and killing at least five people, including four in ...
An Indiana man is suing a strip club, claiming he was injured by a heavy-heeled shoe that came off an exotic dancer's foot when she was performing a "high-kick maneuver," his attorney said today. "As bizarre as it is, the strip club had a duty to protect its customers and it did not do that," attorney Syed Ali Saeed told AOL News. "[They] need to make sure people are wearing the right kind of clothes and [that those clothes] are not flying off." Saeed's client, Jake Quagliaroli, 34, of Indianapolis, was visiting PT's Showclub in nearby Lawrence last month when the alleged shoe assault ...

As a raucous week in the Midwest comes to an end, several state legislatures remain deadlocked over bills that many see as attempts to wrest power away from unions. Wisconsin In the wee hours of this morning, Republicans in the State Assembly held a "flash" vote, passing a controversial bill eradicating collective bargaining for most public employees, before Democrats had a handle on what was happening. Debate on the bill began in the Assembly on Tuesday morning and had lasted an exhausting 61 hours, as Democrats attempted to filibuster. M.P. King, Wisconsin State Journal / ...
Indiana Deputy Attorney General Jeff Cox has been fired for remarks he made on Twitter last week, suggesting riot police in Wisconsin should use live ammunition when clearing protesters out of the Wisconsin Capitol building. The tweet led to a war of words between Cox and Mother Jones magazine editor Adam Weinstein, who uncovered and wrote about similar comments on Cox's blog. The blog has since been taken down. "Civility and courtesy toward all members of the public are very important to the Indiana attorney general's office. We respect individuals' First Amendment right to express their ...
MADISON, Wis. -- With their Senate colleagues still in hiding, Democrats in the Wisconsin Assembly began introducing a barrage of 100 amendments Tuesday to try to stymie the Republican governor's plan to strip unionized public employees of most of their bargaining rights. Both houses of the GOP-controlled Legislature convened shortly before noon amid noisy protests outside the state Capitol that began more than a week ago in an epic showdown that is being watched nervously by organized labor across the country. The Senate was unable to take up the union measure because its 14 Democrats ...
