Rand Paul: Like Father, Like Son?

Rand Paul: Like Father, Like Son?

We all learn much from our parents -- whether we admit it or not. Rand Paul's problem appears to be that he absorbed an important -- but perhaps counterproductive -- lesson from his father: You can succeed in politics by saying what you really think. Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican congressman from Texas who ran for president in 2008, has done well for himself speaking his mind -- no matter how unorthodox his brain waves may be. An anti-government advocate, he's known in Washington as Dr. No for consistently voting against federal programs of all sorts. He's been a never-ending critic ...

Rand Paul Starts Out With Big Lead in Kentucky Senate Race

The first poll since insurgent GOP candidate Rand Paul won Tuesday's Kentucky Senate primary has him vaulting to a 25-point lead over the Democratic nominee, Attorney General Jack Conway. Paul leads Conway, 59 percent to 34 percent, with 4 percent preferring someone else and 3 percent undecided, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted May 19. In late April, his lead had been 9 points and in March it was 14 points. What remains to be seen is how much of this was a bounce from his big victory over Secretary of State Trey Grayson and the attention his candidacy got because of its ...

Rand Paul's Challenge: Holding on to the Republican Vote

Rand Paul's Challenge: Holding on to the Republican Vote

Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who was trounced in Kentucky's GOP senate primary by Tea Party favorite Rand Paul, said during the campaign, "Democrats are salivating to run against a guy who can be portrayed as anti-farmer, anti-teacher and anti-Kentucky." Polling during the primary race gives some support to that view. But what also might work against Paul is that while Grayson, the candidate of his party's establishment, mustered only 35 percent of the vote, that may represent a chunk of Republicans that will bail out on Paul, given the fact that there was no love lost between the two ...

Rand Paul May Win GOP Senate Nod in Ky., but He's Not as Strong in November

Rand Paul May Win GOP Senate Nod in Ky., but He's Not as Strong in November

A Florida-like political saga may be playing out in Kentucky where an insurgent Republican backed by conservative and Tea Party activists beats a more traditional Republican, even though the establishment candidate would fare better in the general election contest against the Democrats. A Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday showed that opthamlogist Rand Paul had a commanding lead over Secretary of State Trey Grayson, now in his second term, in the race for the GOP senate nomination. But Grayson holds measurably bigger leads than Paul over the top Democratic contenders for their ...

Dan Mongiardo both have the lead in their races for their parties' senatorial nominations as the May 18 primary date approaches, according to a Public Policy Polling survey conducted May 1-2. Paul has a commanding advantage over Secretary of State Trey Grayson, a pillar of the state GOP establishment. Paul is ahead by 46 percent to 28 percent with two other candidates sharing 4 percent and 21 percent undecided. Both candidates are seen favorably but Paul seems to have made himself ...

Republican Hopefuls Lose Ground in Kentucky Senate Race

Republican Hopefuls Lose Ground in Kentucky Senate Race

The two Democrats running for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning in Kentucky have gained on the Republicans seeking the job, although they still trail in general election match-ups, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted April 28. Last month, both Secretary of State Trey Grayson and eye doctor Rand Paul, a favorite of Tea Party activists, were above the 50 percent mark against Attorney General Jack Conway and Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo. But now they have dipped below that mark and their leads have lessened, particularly in the match-ups with Conway. Grayson leads Conway, 43 ...

GOP's Paul and Grayson Outdistance Dems in Ky. Senate Race

The two Republicans running for their party's nomination to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning -- Rand Paul, son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, and Secretary of State Trey Grayson -- both lead the Democratic hopefuls for the job by margins ranging from 14 to 20 points, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted March 31. However, Grayson runs the stronger race against either of the Democratic candidates. Paul, an opthamologist and Tea Party enthusiast, leads Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo 52 percent to 37 percent with 3 percent preferring another choice and 8 percent undecided. Grayson leads ...

On the Democratic side, Mongiardo leads the state's attorney general, Jack Conway, by 45 percent to 27 percent, ...
