NEW YORK (July 25) -- A maintenance man at a prominent western New York office building was crushed to death after falling into a trash compactor, but no one realized it for weeks as his family and authorities searched for him, police said Sunday. On June 10, 1776, the Continental Congress appointed a committee made up of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston and Roger Sherman to draft a declaration of independence from England.
