"There's no one who wants this thing over more than I do. You know, I'd like my life back." Answer: C. Tony Hayward All three of the newsmakers we listed surely said this to themselves at some point during this difficult year. In June, Gen. It's been a tough month for Sarah Palin's mama -- and papa -- grizzlies. Still, her endorsement record this year is in positive territory. After a great June, several candidates endorsed by Palin lost in primary elections. Four more will take the primary test Tuesday and another six on Sept. 14. The former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate is all over Facebook and Twitter promoting her endorsements. And she's used her political action committee to donate some $87,500 to candidates. Thus far, our tally shows Palin is 6-2 in endorsements in governors' races, 3-6 in ...
(Aug. 11) -- We have a winner, or two. In the runoff election to decide the next Republican Party nominee for governor in Georgia, Karen Handel has finally conceded to Nathan Deal in an astonishingly close vote that drew a relatively light turnout. With more than 579,000 votes cast, Deal inched by Handel by a paper-thin margin of just under 2,500 votes. But the voting results were only part of the story in the Georgia contest, which acted as a symbolic proxy war between two presumptive GOP candidates for president in 2012. Sarah Palin had vocally thrown her support behind Handel. A ...
(Aug. 11) -- Democrats came off in Tuesday night's primaries as the staid party, not overly eager to rebel against the establishment. Republicans, meanwhile, continued their propensity to take flyers. In Colorado, Sen. Michael Bennet struck a blow for establishment candidates on the line this year by surviving a stiff Democratic primary challenge from former state House speaker Andrew Romanoff. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper ran unopposed for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. And in Connecticut, attorney general Richard Blumenthal ran unopposed for the Democratic Senate nomination. ...

Georgia GOP gubernatorial primary candidates Nathan Deal and Karen Handel were virtually tied in their runoff Tuesday night, but Handel conceded the race Wednesday morning and endorsed her opponent in the general election. With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Deal led Handel by about 2,500 votes. Under Georgia law, the runner-up can request a recount if less than 1 percent of the vote separates the winner and loser. In a statement Wednesday, Handel noted that she trailed Deal by four-tenths of a percentage point, with absentee ballots and overseas military votes yet to be counted. ...

Georgia's former secretary of state, Karen Handel, who made it into Tuesday's upcoming runoff election for the GOP gubernatorial nomination with the help of a Sarah Palin endorsement, leads former Rep. Nathan Deal by 47 percent to 42 percent, with 11 percent undecided, according to a Mason-Dixon Research poll conducted for the Georgia Newspaper Partnership. The winner will face Democratic nominee Roy Barnes who served one term as governor between 1999 and 2003. DENVER -- Let us take a brief break from the racism debate and talk about high heels. And sexism. We'll start with a one-liner: What's the difference between the two GOP Senate candidates in Colorado? High heels, according to the man in the race, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck. He's running against former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton in the Aug 10 primary. Appointed Sen. Michael Bennet faces former state House speaker Andrew Romanoff on the Democratic side, but they're not arguing about footwear. Yet. Saturday, Buck made a stop at the annual Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms event held by the ...
