Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! That's what the Austin American-Statesman has concluded, anyway:With all the back-and-forth over the delegates gained by Obama and Clinton in yesterday's Texas primary, this word is just in from state Democratic officials.Obama could pick up a net gain of three delegates, after all the dust settles. So Clinton won the popular vote by a margin that gives her 4 delegates. But Obama leads in the caucus portion of the primary, and, as a result, is on pace to earn 7 delegates. Maybe that big comeback wasn't so big after all.Overall, as Marc Ambinder points out, the math still favors Obama. ...
According to several broadcast and print media reports, President Bush will formally endorse Sen. John McCain for president at the White House tomorrow. While the endorsement itself is not surprising, the timing of it is. President Bush has mostly shied away from commenting on the primaries; but he did recently predict a Republican victory in November, and couldn't resist taking a jab at Sen. Barack Obama for some foreign policy comments that the Democratic front-runner made.Bush and McCain, bitter rivals for the Republican nomination in 2000, have mostly repaired their sometimes rocky ...
7:16 pm - Polls close at 7:30. Here in Southwest Ohio (Cincinnati), it's been cold and rainy. Generally not a day that you wake up and think, "Golly I get to vote today!" I havent checked on the weather in other parts of the state, but Obama is strongest here, so this doesn't bode well for him, but then again his supporters are likely more enthusiastic. McCain has won in Vermont. That is not a surprise, the only big question on the GOP side is whether Huckabee scores an upset in Texas, which is still a possibility. But I think McCain can close the door tonight. -------------------- 7:23 pm - ...
Yet another round of primary prediction folly! Today, of course, is the much ballyhooed four-state contest Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont. All eyes are on Clinton.Let's recap where the Democratic election is, in terms of awarded delegates. The big news teams have been keeping a tally, which varies a tad. Here are their calculations:-- ABC - Obama 1,380, Clinton 1,276-- AP - Obama 1,373, Clinton 1,277-- CBS - Obama 1,373, Clinton 1,265-- CNN - Obama 1,369, Clinton 1,267-- MSNBC - Obama 1,194, Clinton 1,037 The conventional wisdom is that Clinton must score major victories today or ...
Whatever happens during tonight's primaries, GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said he will take stock of where his campaign stands tomorrow. Meaning, if he doesn't win in Texas tonight, there is a chance the Chuck Norris-approved former Arkansas governor may take a step back from the campaign trail."Tomorrow's going to be a day of sort of looking at the landscape, looking ahead, and where we go from here," regardless of whether he wins any or all primaries tonight in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island, Huckabee told reporters today. The Politico reported over the weekend that while ...
Unless Rush Limbaugh has his way, today could be the end stage of the Democratic Presidential nominating process. Predictions have proven more useless than usual in this election cycle, but there's still a chance that I could totally nail it and be catapulted to national prominence by making a guess that nobody else makes and being exactly right. So, to that end, I predict that Huckabee edges McCain in Texas, 36%-34%, with Ron Paul a close 3rd with 30%, and that Barack Obama sweeps Tertiary Tuesday, causing Hillary Clinton to send "Paulie Walnuts" to check in on each of the Democratic ...
Polls show the race is close in the delegate-rich states of Ohio and Texas. While Barack Obama supporters want Hillary Clinton to "exit gracefully," she respectfully demurs: "I'm just getting warmed up."If Clinton has a chance to win the nomination, Democratic voters believe that she should stay in. According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, two-thirds of Democrats said a win in either Texas or Ohio is good enough for government work. ...
Barack Obama's closing ad, in Texas, is a 2 minute spot titled "Leader." ...
Well that was fast, and when the polls close in MD and DC, it's just as likely to be as decisive as VA. Get used to seeing pictures like this. Barack Obama won the Virginia primary Tuesday, scoring an initial victory as he squared off with Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Chesapeake primary and Clinton tried to end a string of Obama wins that have put her campaign on the defensive. And where is Hillary Clinton? Gone to Texas, to build a firewall: ...So where will she be? In El Paso, Texas, for a "Solutions for America" rally. And where will she be tomorrow? In McAllen, Robstown, and San ...
