They were in town for the winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and, like officials all over, have been hurt by the recession. By Bruce Drake - Politics DailyBoth Democrats seeking their party's nomination for governor of Hawaii are leading the likely Republican candidate for the job, according to a Mason-Dixon poll conducted Jan. 8-12 for the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Ten-term Democratic Rep. Neil Abercrombie is in a tight race with Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann to win the party's nomination for governor, with Abercrombie leading 37 percent to 34 percent with 29 percent undecided.
