New Mexico Elections

New Mexico

The state known as the Land of Enchantment will get its first female governor in this election. Democratic Lt. Gov. Diane Denish is running to succeed term-limited Bill Richardson. She's in a close race against Sarah Palin-endorsed Republican Susana Martinez.Another tossup contest is in the 2nd District, where the Republican who used to occupy the House seat is trying to win it back from the freshman Democrat who rode into office on Obama's coattails two years ago. There is no Senate race in New Mexico this year. Obama won New Mexico in 2008.
