Ayotte Leads GOP Pack in N.H. Race for Party's Senate Nomination

Former New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte has a big lead over her rivals for the Republican nomination in the race to succeed GOP Sen. Judd Gregg, who is retiring, according to a Public Policy Polling survey conducted April 17-18. Ayotte attracts 43 percent of likely primary voters, while businessman Bill Binnie runs second at 19 percent, businessman Jim Bender gets 11 percent and lawyer Ovide Lamontagne is way behind at 5 percent. Two of the three Republicans running for their party's nod to face Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes in the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire now have 10 point leads over Hodes, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Narch 8. State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte leads Hodes 47 percent to 37 percent with 4 percent preferring someone else and 12 percent undecided. The margin of error is 4.5 points. New Hampshire's Republican Attorney General Kelly Ayotte continues to be the strongest GOP candidate against Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes, leading him 41 percent to 33 percent with 25 percent undecided, according to a WMUR/University of New Hampshire Granite State poll conducted Jan. 27 - Feb. 3.
