Pennsylvania

The battle to succeed longtime Sen. Arlen Specter is one of several close contests in the Keystone State. In May's Democratic primary, Rep. Joe Sestak upset Specter, the former Republican who switched parties last year in hopes of winning a sixth term in the Senate. Sestak's Republican opponent in the general election is former Rep. Pat Toomey. In the governor's race, Tom Corbett is aiming to score a pickup for the GOP against Democrat Dan Onorato. Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell is not running for re-election because of term limits.Sestak's decision to run for Senate opened up the House seat in the 7th District, where Democrat Bryan Lentz faces Republican Pat Meehan. Democratic incumbent Paul Kanjorski, seeking his 14th term in Congress, is in a competitive race in the 11th District. So is freshman Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper in the 3rd District. Obama won Pennsylvania in 2008.
