Professor Brings Strippers into Classroom

Only a few weeks after an infamous live sex toy demonstration rocked Northwestern University, a professor at La Salle University in Philadelphia was suspended for bringing strippers to perform lap dances during a seminar. Much like the incident at Northwestern, the March 21 performance at La Salle was done in an after-class optional seminar. Unlike the incident at Northwestern, the performance was not for a class related to sexuality -- it was done as part of a statistics course in the business school. Some reports say the women performed lap dances on the professor and willing students. ...

Pa. Rower, Cyclist Save Young Men From Drowning in River

Chris DeFelice thinks it's strange that people are calling him a hero, but after he and another good Samaritan jumped into a river to save two young men from drowning, he certainly deserves the moniker. On Thursday, DeFelice was going for his usual morning row in a single scull on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia when he heard wheels screeching on the shore, followed by a small bang. It was the sound of a Toyota Corolla that had been traveling eastbound on Boathouse Row, which runs along the riverbank. The driver had lost control of the car, which crossed a grassy median and plunged into ...

Philadelphia Cardinal's Apology Not Enough, Advocates Say

As Philadelphia-area parishioners began to learn the names of the 21 Catholic priests suspended in connection with alleged child sexual abuse, advocates for victims criticized the archbishop's plea for forgiveness and handling of the scandal. Cardinal Justin Rigali asked a capacity crowd at Philadelphia's Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Ash Wednesday for "forgiveness of all those whom we have offended in any way" and added that the church is re-evaluating how it handles abuse allegations, CNN reported. Matt Rourke, AP Cardinal Justin Rigali, archbishop of ...

21 Priests in Philadelphia Suspended on Sex Abuse Allegations

Rigali suspended the priests on the eve of Ash Wednesday and the penitential season of Lent. In a statement, Rigali expressed his "sorrow" for the abuse of children by clergy. Pennsylvania Teacher Strikes Nerve With 'Lazy Whiners' Blog

FEASTERVILLE, Pa. - A high school English teacher in suburban Philadelphia who was suspended for a profanity-laced blog in which she called her young charges "disengaged, lazy whiners" is driving a sensation by daring to ask: Why are today's students unmotivated - and what's wrong with calling them out? As she fights to keep her job at Central Bucks East High School, 30-year-old Natalie Munroe says she had no interest in becoming any sort of educational icon. The blog has been taken down, but its contents can still be found easily online. Matt Rourke, AP Central Bucks, Pa., East ...

Couple Gets Married on a Real Love Train in Philly

PHILADELPHIA - When people ask Krisy Plourde and Tom Golden where they got married, their answer will be a rough estimate: somewhere around 46th Street. Plourde and Golden said their vows aboard an elevated train on Sunday, just ahead of Valentine's Day. The nuptials, performed by Mayor Michael Nutter, took place on a special train from City Hall to west Philadelphia. While Plourde and Golden, both 28, were being wed in the first car, about 360 other riders were getting a narrated tour of the "Love Letter" series of rooftop murals that parallel the tracks. It was perhaps the most memorable ...
