Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! If you asked 1,000 people to list the attributes of the Almighty, how many would include "proponent of limited government"? But that was the top of the list last week for two California federal judges. Michael Newdow is a California atheist who gets his jollies watching federal courts stand on their heads to deny that the concept of God's sovereignty is essentially religious. That may overstate the case a smidge. Newdow is a California atheist. And he's spent more than a decade peppering the federal courts with challenges to the phrases "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We ...
(Feb. 24) -- After a Maryland middle school student refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance, the child's teacher alerted school police and had the girl escorted from the classroom. According to The Washington Post, the 13-year-old girl's mother said that following the incident, her child was mocked by other kids at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown, Md. In response to the incident, the child's mother contacted the American Civil Liberties Union, the Post reported, to demand an apology from the teacher. From The Chronicle, via Blogger Interrupted:Judith Czelusniak, a spokeswoman for Bloomberg News, confirmed ...
Every single day I receive dozens of e-mails telling me that Barack Obama is a Muslim, that he refused to say the pledge of allegiance, and that he took his oath of office with his hand on a Koran. From now on, I'm simply going to forward the url for this post. I humbly suggest that you do the same, regardless of who you are voting for this year. ...
The good people at FactCheck.org have taken on the internet epidemic of fear that has run amok concerning Democrat Barack Obama's bid to become president. As someone who writes about Obama on a frequent basis, it's impossible not to marvel at the Pavlovian reaction the man's very name seems to elicit from a segment of our population. To many in America, this is a man to be feared. The two leading (and contradictory) claims about Obama are that 1) He is a Muslim (a word so many readers seem to have trouble even spelling correctly), and 2) He belongs to a Christian church in Chicago that hates ...
