With only a few questionable ballots left to tally in the Minnesota governor's race, Democrat Mark Dayton appears to be hanging onto his slim lead over Republican Tom Emmer, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Over the weekend, Emmer dropped some 2,600 "frivolous" ballot challenges in Hennepin County, which were seen as key to his strategy to cut into Dayton's vote total. In addition, The Minneapolis Star-Tribune said local election officials predicted that most of the Republican's remaining challenges will be tossed out when the state Canvassing Board meets this week. That would seem ...
Another election year, another recount in Minnesota. The state's canvassing board Tuesday ordered that all 2.1 million ballots cast in the gubernatorial election be counted again -- by hand. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the board accepted a report by the Minnesota Secretary of State that found Democrat Mark Dayton leading Republican Tom Emmer by just 8,770 votes. Because the difference is less than one-half of one percentage point, it automatically triggers a recount. The recount is slated to begin Monday in each of the state's 87 counties and should be finished by Dec. 7. Then ...
(Nov. 8) -- After taking the weekend to examine election results, Republican Tom Foley conceded the race for governor of Connecticut to Democrat Dannel Malloy during a press conference Monday in Hartford. Foley said that although the outcome of the race made him "happy and disappointed," he believes "the election on Tuesday was a conclusive victory for Dan Malloy and should not be questioned." The winner of the race could not be determined on Election Day because the results were disputed for more than 48 hours, in part because the city of Bridgeport ran out of ballots during the election ...
If Al Franken wins the election recount case that is currently before the Minnesota Supreme Court, the Republican Party is ready to fight for their candidate, Norm Coleman, all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court."The United States Supreme Court has said we need uniform state standards in elections. This is about the constitutional rights of Minnesota voters," Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said. Cornyn said the case should go to the nation's highest court, if necessary. "This is about the legitimacy of elections." The senator chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee and answered questions ...
Star-TribuneRepublican Norm Coleman's dim prospects for winning the U.S. Senate trial darkened today as several hundred disputed absentee ballots were finally counted and split strongly for his DFL opponent, Al Franken.Minutes after the ballots were opened for the first time, state elections director Gary Poser counted them, reading off the votes one by one to a hushed courtroom. When he was done, Franken's lead had grown from 225 to 312 votes.Ouch! Norm Coleman is playing the recount rules right. Fight to keep counting when you're ahead, then fight to stop the counting immediately. The big ...

The three-judge panel charged with overseeing recount challenges in the Norm Coleman/ Al Franken Senate election ruled decisively against Coleman yesterday. The judges announced that only 400 absentee ballots were eligible to be recounted-- Coleman had hoped for 1400. Furthermore, many of the ballots deemed eligible for review come from Franken-leaning counties. This would be a crushing blow for Coleman save for the fact that he simply doesn't acknowledge court rulings that go against him (and there have been many), choosing instead to keep appealing and appealing until eventually Antonin ...
Are the Republicans about to stop their election bleeding? Are the voters turning against stimulus and bailouts? Is an Obama endorsement a magic ticket to victory? The entire political world, media, pundits, and consultants look to NY Congressional District 20, and Republican Tedisco vs. Democrat Murphy for the answer. This special election is over the seat vacated by Gillibrand, who was tapped to replace Hillary Clinton as New York's Senator.NY 20 is a bellwether district these days, having gone from solid Republican to Democratic in 2006 and 2008. Polling was tight and, even better for the ...
Who is this strange robot and what did he do with our original robot, Norm Coleman?Because all of a sudden, the Minnesota recount took a drastic swing toward sanity. Prior to today, the whole Norm Coleman post-election script had been basically: Sue. Appeal. Lose Even More Votes. Sue. Appeal. Repeat. And yet this strange creature, who we'll admit sports that trademark Coleman teeth and hair, now says it won't take Al Franken to the Supreme Court if Franken prevails in Minnesota... Ex-Sen. Norm Coleman (Minn.), at the Capitol on Tuesday to lunch with his former GOP colleagues, said he does not ...
