By Mara Gay - AOL News(Dec. 16) -- A grandson of former Chilean President Salvador Allende has committed suicide, his family says. Gonzalo Meza Allende, 45, killed himself Wednesday, according to a statement from his mother, Chilean Sen. Isabel Allende. The statement did not say how he ended his life. The senator asked for privacy so the family could deal with the tragedy. Chile Rescue Workers Reach Cavern Where Miners Are Trapped
By Hugh Collins - AOL News(Sept. 17) -- Rescue workers in Chile have drilled into the caverns where 33 miners have been trapped for weeks, raising hopes that the men could be rescued sooner than expected. The drill entered the cavern, which is more than 2,000 feet beneath the surface, at 10:33 a.m. EDT this morning and was greeted with jubilation by the trapped miners, CNN reported.
