Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! After all the dire predictions and pre-emptive school closings, the snowstorm has arrived ... big time. If you live in the Midwest, you can look out a window and see what the snowpocalypse looks like. Surge Desk's windows are a long way from Chicago, so we thought we'd check in on the Windy (Snowy) City via webcam to see how it's doing. Turns out watching a blizzard from a distance isn't quite as exciting as tweeting about a blizzard. See for yourself. The Chicago Sun-Times has a camera set up at its downtown headquarters. Those rooftops sure look cold: Here's a feed from a ...
The Midwest isn't the only place suffering from a brush with the snowpocalypse. In Dallas, a morning ice storm resulted in a veritable shutdown of the city, the Dallas Morning News reported. With schools, the courts, public transportation, DFW airport and numerous roads all being shut down for a portion of the day, some Super Bowl fans had to wonder why this year's game couldn't have been held in Miami. With Chicago expected to get upward of 2 feet of snow, a couple of inches of ice might not seem like such a newsworthy event, but this is Dallas we're talking about, where most cars aren't ...
A massive winter storm is barreling toward the Midwest, with near-record snowfall expected in Chicago. Winter weather advisories and blizzard warnings have been issued in many areas, and officials say the storm will bring ice, wind and cold temperatures along with the snow. Whether you're calling it a monster winter storm, a menacing storm, a Groundhog Day storm or a snowpocalype, Surge Desk has some tips for getting through it -- courtesy of the creative minds on YouTube. This man, a survivor of the blizzard that hit Atlanta earlier this month, demonstrates the art of covering your legs ...
Memo to Michael Bloomberg: The next time a monster blizzard hits your city, do what Cory Booker did. The Newark, N.J., mayor has emerged as an online hero after he and his staff went around the city helping residents cope with the winter blast. Besides communicating with constituents on Twitter, Booker helped shovel snow and directed plows to congested areas. Check out some of Booker's tweets that earned him a lot of kudos: .bbpBox19927535001280510 {background:url(http://a0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/74694112/Cory_Booker_looking_up5.jpg) #9AE4E8;padding:20px;} ...
(Feb. 25) -- Weary residents of the Northeastern United States are being hit with the latest punch from Mother Nature. Nicknamed "Snowicane," the storm's brought heavy snow to New York state, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and heavy rain to parts of New England. It was accompanied by blistering winds that downed trees and power lines up and down the region. At least 75,000 customers were without power in New York and New England. "It's not just a snowstorm," Bob Oravec of the National Weather Service told ABC News. "There's all this flooding in New England, and when you have a storm this ...
Snowpocalypse was fun -- that is, until our power went out and the heat vanished. That was two days ago. So I've been contending with the basics of survival: food and shelter. In between all that, I've been shoveling tons of snow. Our neighborhood was placed low on the priority list for Pepco, the power company. I guess we just don't have political pull. (Rep. Chris Van Hollen, don't count on this precinct next time.) And more snow is predicted for Tuesday night. A few years ago, a Pepco service guy -- a contractor -- complained to me that the utility had shed itself of many of its in-house ...
