South Carolina Senate Race

Democrat Alvin Greene could be this year's most unlikely candidate. Despite having no political experience, campaign organization or budget, the unemployed veteran defeated Charleston City Councilman Vic Rawl, a former judge and state lawmaker, in the Democratic primary. Greene served in the Army and Air Force for a total of 13 years before receiving an involuntary honorable discharge in 2009. He was indicted in August on a felony charge of showing pornography to a female college student.

Republican Jim DeMint, a leading conservative on Capitol Hill, is seeking his second term in the Senate. He represented South Carolina's 4th District in the U.S. House from 1999-2005. DeMint ran a market research company before he entered politics.
