Residents of Springfield, Ill., received startling news Wednesday that an autopsy found Mayor Tim Davlin apparently killed himself with a single gunshot to the chest. Davlin, 53, was pronounced dead at his home Tuesday morning, after police responded to a 911 call, according to the State Journal-Register. CNN reported Davlin was discovered just before he was due in court to present an accounting of his late cousin's $845,000 estate. The two-term Democrat was executor of the assets. Illinois State Police have not released any details about the death. The coroner said toxicology tests on ...
(Nov. 11) -- An Illinois woman says she lost her job at a Catholic university just for announcing her marriage to another woman, even though her employer knew they were planning to wed. Laine Tadlock printed an announcement of her marriage to Kae Helstrom in The State Journal Register newspaper. The announcement mentioned that she worked at Benedictine University's Springfield campus, where she was director of the education department. Tadlock says her employers knew she was gay when they hired her, and that she had told them of her plans to get married in Iowa before the ceremony. But ...
(Aug. 17) -- On Tuesday evening, it was "Blago" vs. the blogosphere. The former of course being ex-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who exited a federal courthouse in Chicago guilty on just one of the 24 counts filed against him (lying to federal investigators). It was a disappointing verdict for the prosecution and all of those who wished that Lady Justice would have come down more swiftly and harshly on the man accused of attempting to auction-off Barack Obama's old Senate seat, among other alleged corrupt practices. (He now faces up to five years in prison for the one guilty ...

He was arrested July 13 for allegedly jumping a 68-year-old man and stealing $354 from him. http://xml.channel.aol.com/xmlpublisher/fetch.v2.xml?option=expand_relative_urls&dataUrlNodes=uiConfig,feedConfig,localizationConfig,entry&id=686529&pid=686528&uts=1279550121 http://www.aolcdn.com/ke/media_gallery/v1/ke_media_gallery_wrapper.swf ...
It's well known that President Obama has got game, having played hoops growing up in Hawaii, recreationally while in college and law school, and in pick-ups games on the playgrounds of Chicago when working as a community organizer. He's even promised to replace the White House bowling alley with a basketball court. Washington's newest senator, Scott Brown (R-Mass.), is also a baller. After winning election last month, Brown, a former guard at Tufts University, told NBC's Jay Leno and others that he'd love to take on the president in a game of one-on-one. "I think it would be fun," Brown ...
