Rush Limbaugh Dropped From Bid to Buy Rams

Rush Limbaugh has been dropped from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams after several black NFL players and the league's commissioner objected to past comments by the talk show host that they found offensive, Reuters reported Thursday. "It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions," said SPC Worldwide Chairman Dave Checketts, who is leading the bid. "We have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion." Several black players said they would never play for a team ...

Saints Top Worst-to-First Power Rankings

Amid all these NFL predictions flooding the web this week there are few certainties. But if recent history is any indication, we know for sure that at least one of this year's division winners will be a team that finished in last place a year ago. At least one team has turned the trick every year since the NFL went to the current eight-division format -- 10 teams total in six seasons. The Dolphins did it last year, the Buccaneers the year before, and the Eagles and Saints the year before that. The reasons for this phenomenon are obvious -- overall parity, four-team divisions, a scheduling ...

Andy McCollum Misses His Eating Partner

Andy McCollum Misses His Eating Partner

It's been a couple of months since the Rams cut Adam Timmerman, and with offseason activities beginning in Rams Park, Andy McCollum is still feeling the hurt."Going out on the field without Adam is strange," McCollum said. "We've been playing together for a long time." Even stranger, he said, is not having Timmerman keeping the atmosphere loose in meetings and attacking the chow line with him. "We don't have his bad jokes going in the meetings all the time now. I definitely miss that," McCollum said. "And his eating ability . . . no one really can eat food like Adam could. He's hard to replace ...

Shaine Smith Will Not Sign Your Paltry Contract

Shaine Smith Will Not Sign Your Paltry Contract

When you're an undrafted free agent, you have no leverage. There are no guarantees. No slotted salaries. You just want to get paid before the market dries up on you. Unless you're Hofstra's Shaine Smith, in which case you swing your gigantic balls and call the shots yourself."I thought Philadelphia was going to take me in the draft," said Smith, 23. When the Eagles' subsequent free-agent offer was less than expected, he and his agent "decided to try to see what else we can get on the table," Smith said. "They were trying to bring me in just for nothing. I believe that I'm worth a little bit ...

Chief Shots: The Return of Don Denkinger?

Chief Shots: The Return of Don Denkinger?

So I decided to change the name of my weekly segment to "Chief Shots" because I'm pretending to be clever. Again, this is my weekly chance to be completely off-the-cuff, ridiculous, crunk-tastic, and completely abso-ludicrous I wonder what the reaction would be in St. Louis if Don Denkinger was an honorary ref for the game. I also wonder what kind of great calls he could make if he were the ref: 20 yard holding penalties? One knee equals three feet? Or how about making an infamous call for a SAFE-ty? It would be a funny site to see if St. Louis fans, still pumped up about their beloved ...

Chiefs 2006 Schedule- A Game-by-Game Glance

Chiefs 2006 Schedule- A Game-by-Game Glance

As Jon stated in the season preview, I believe the Chiefs will finish 10-6. Trent Green (right) agrees, which is why he is wearing #10. Here is a game-by-game justification for my prediction: Bengals (Home) [W] - A really tough one. Six months ago, I chalked this up as an easy win, because I figured there was no way Carson Palmer would be ready for this game. Palmer actually looks even better now. The benefit is that the Chiefs are at home. Chalk this up as a very, very close win. Broncos (Away) [L] - The Chiefs can't win in Denver. End of story. Bye - Someone will have to explain this ...
