How to Handle Valentine's Day When You're Polyamorous

How to Handle Valentine's Day When You're Polyamorous

You'd think that a woman who enjoys what she calls "sport sex" wouldn't have trouble finding a Valentine. But you'd be wrong, both about the woman and her situation. Angye Fox, 40, runs a successful ad agency in Florida and, yes, she is also a swinger who has sex with different partners without being in love with any of them. Although she sometimes goes to swing parties with a male friend, she considers herself single. As such, Valentine's Day is a melancholy time for her. "It can be lonely," she told AOL News. "Take New Year's Eve, for instance. I do a radio show in Florida called the ...

Tampa's Bid to Host Super Bowl in 2015 Enhanced by Misery in Dallas

Tampa's Bid to Host Super Bowl in 2015 Enhanced by Misery in Dallas

The NFC South cities of New Orleans and Tampa should be gleeful because it might be a cold day in hell before the NFL wants to get back to Dallas and its ice. The Super Bowl weather was miserable last week and the Cowboys stadium was unfit for the huge crowd. Some fans with tickets could not get their seats and are due a refund....and much more. The weather in February will not be so disastrous when the game comes back to the southeast to New Orleans (2013) and maybe Tampa (2015) and away from the ice belt. Of course, New Orleans has its own issues with the Louisiana Superdome where there ...

Driver Crashes Into Her Own Insurance Company

Driver Crashes Into Her Own Insurance Company

Maybe the Saab sedan was possessed by the spirit of the mysterious "Mayhem" guy from the Allstate commercials. Fire Department officials in Tampa, Fla., still are not sure why the car, driven by a mother with her child and a male passenger, seemed to swerve off the road, jump a curb and leave a gaping hole in the wall of the building where the driver's insurance agent works. After the Tampa Fire Department got a call about 8:30 p.m. Monday, they found the car still wedged in the wall of the one-story concrete-block office. The building was closed for business and no one in the car was ...

Driver Smashes Into Insurance Agency That Insures Her Car

Driver Smashes Into Insurance Agency That Insures Her Car

There was one small upside when a driver in Tampa, Fla., slammed into an office building, ripping a hole in the wall. She didn't have to call her insurance agent. Tampa Fire Rescue crews rescued a female driver, a male passenger and the woman's 4-year-old boy after her Saab sedan ripped a hole through the concrete walls of the Adrian Fernandez Insurance office on Armenia Avenue, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The car was insured by the office. The woman was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The others were not hurt, the website reported. It was the third time in 10 years the ...

Florida Community Tries to Fathom Horrific Slaying of Children

Florida Community Tries to Fathom Horrific Slaying of Children

Police say Julie Powers Schenecker was a seemingly devoted mother who brutally murdered her two children because they mouthed off to her. But why? That is the question on many minds today as people try to come to grips with a horrific crime and the reasons behind it. "She seemed like a very well-adjusted person. ... She spent years in the military [and] as the wife of a career officer," friend Jan Graham told AOL News. Schenecker, 50, of suburban Tampa, Fla., was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her son, Beau, 13, and her daughter, Calyx, ...

Gasparilla: 5 Best Video Clips From This Year's Pirate Festival

Shiver me timbers! Roughly 350,000 pirates and wenches invaded Tampa Bay, Fla., over the weekend for the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Since 1904, local and distant "krewes" have gathered in Tampa Bay for what has become a Mardi Gras-style celebration complete with a parade, boating, fireworks, food and drink -- lots of drink. And for a bunch of supposed miscreants, the pirate folk were pretty well-behaved this year. Only 349 people were arrested, mostly for alcohol violations, down from last year's 415 arrests. Here's a quick top-five video roundup from the festival, compliments of ...

Mom Charged in Kids' Slayings Treated at Hospital

TAMPA, Fla. -- The woman who authorities say killed her teenage daughter and son because she was fed up with them talking back and being mouthy did not appear in court Saturday because she was being treated at a hospital for an unknown condition. Authorities say Julie Powers Schenecker was taken to Tampa General Hospital shortly after midnight Saturday to be treated for a medical condition that existed before she was taken to jail. Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies - who oversee jail inmates - said they could not reveal Schenecker's medical condition, citing health care privacy laws. A jail ...

New RNC Chief Reince Priebus Fires GOP Convention Staff

Reince Priebus is cleaning house. Just days after being elected the head of of the Republican National Committee, Priebus has sacked the staff involved in planning the 2012 GOP convention. In a written statement, Priebus said changes were necessary to ensure that the convention in Tampa, Fla., "will be worthy" of the Republican candidate for president. "Those changes start today. I have discontinued the employment of the convention liaison and the employees of the Committee on Arrangements, effective immediately," Priebus said. "I look forward to bringing on top-notch staff and planning a ...

The Dugout: Somebody Signed Kyle Farnsworth Already

The Dugout: Somebody Signed Kyle Farnsworth Already

The Rays continue to piece together a mostly new bullpen, reportedly agreeing to terms on a deal with free agent Kyle Farnsworth. The good news is that Big Country gets to stay in the Major Leagues for at least another season, and I get another year of barely baseball-related tangential storytelling. The bad news is that if the Rays wanted help in the bullpen, they signed Kyle Farnsworth for 2011. Trust me, the original version of this was about four times longer and involved a conversation where we find out Jacksonville doesn't have a baseball team because it "smells like Sable's vagina." ...
