At the Tea Party Rally: Obama 'the Communist'

In the time-honored tradition of protest groups, the Tea Party movement simultaneously revels in its anti-establishment grassroots pedigree and longs for mainstream political acceptance. Both strands of the movement were on display Thursday during the latest Tea Party invasion of Washington (aka Sodom) as anti-big-government protesters roared their defiance on income tax deadline day. At least a few thousand raucous Tea Partiers did at a noon rally on an over-sized traffic island in downtown Washington grandly known as Freedom Plaza, located a few bullhorn shouts from the White House. But ...

Sarah Palin Sticks to Her Guns, and Gun Imagery, in Message to Supporters

In a message posted on her Facebook page Sunday afternoon, Sarah Palin reiterated her call for supporters to "reload" in the battle against health care reform, a term that provoked controversy last week after critics accused her of inciting violence against members of Congress. Presenting her message as an exhortation to college basketball teams competing in March Madness, Palin stood her ground in using firearm imagery against the administration. "The crossfire is intense, so penetrate through enemy territory by bombing through the press, and use your strong weapons -- your Big Guns -- to ...

Women Reveal Their Reasons for Tea Partying

(March 27) -- Could the Soccer Mom of the 2010 midterm elections be ... the Tea Party Dame? That's one implication of the most striking finding of a new poll by Quinnipiac University, which showed that the membership of the attention-getting movement is 55 percent female. AOL News wanted to understand what draws a woman to the tea party movement, so we asked our network of Seed contributors to find out. What they discovered, as the 10 following microprofiles reveal, is that the anger, desire for empowerment, antipathy toward government and obsession with the Constitution that are fueling the ...

Marvel Comics Apologizes for Offending Tea Partiers in 'Captain America' Story

Marvel Comics' "Captain America" -- about a superpatriot who fought Nazis in World War II and chased flag burners during the Vietnam War -- is one of the longest-running, best-loved comics in American history. But, Marvel recently apologized for having a story align too closely to the politics of the moment, Yahoo News reports. While infiltrating a right-wing, anti-government militia group known as the "Watchdogs," Captain America encounters mobs of what appear to be Tea Party protesters. In one scene, Captain America and his African-American sidekick, The Falcon, observe an anti-tax protest ...

Onetime Fox News Analyst Angela McGlowan Launches House Bid

Former Fox News analyst Angela McGlowan has entered the race to represent Mississippi's 1st congressional district, Politico reports. McGlowan left her position with Fox News to launch her campaign, and says she will come out with guns blazing against the Republican front-runner, Alan Nunneree. "This is not a coronation," McGlowan said. "People down here want a primary." McGlowan is setting off on a five-day tour of the Oxford-based district and has urged the National Republican Congressional Committee not to endorse a candidate in the race. The Republican winner will face incumbent Travis ...

Sarah Palin Defends Her Participation in Tea Party Convention

In an op-ed piece in Wednesday's USA Today, Sarah Palin responds to the controversy about organizers of the Tea Party Convention, a gathering of conservatives in Nashville later this week -- and at which Palin will speak. Several high-profile lawmakers, including Reps. Michele Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn, have withdrawn from the event over questions about where its proceeds will go. Other Tea Party supporters were suspicious of the $550 price of tickets. But the former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate, who will deliver the gathering's keynote address Saturday, said she ...

Michele Bachmann Compares Tea Partiers to Doomed 'Light Brigade'

Michele Bachmann Compares Tea Partiers to Doomed 'Light Brigade'

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), speaking at a "Code Red" rally against health care reform Tuesday in Washington, compared the Tea Party movement to a famous battle of the Crimean War, Talking Points Memo reports. "It's the charge of the light brigade!" Bachmann shouted, referring to the brigade immortalized in Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade." The only problem is that the poem describes a disastrous, badly orchestrated charge by the British cavalry in the Battle of Balaclava. It became a symbol of loyalty and courage in the face of certain defeat, ...

Tea Party Tops Republican Party in Poll

By  Steve Pendlebury - AOL News
Tea Party Tops Republican Party in Poll

(Dec. 8) -- A new Rasmussen survey gives Tea Partiers reason to celebrate and might point the way for the Republican Party going into next year's elections. In a three-way generic congressional contest, 36 percent of those polled picked the Democrat, 23 percent chose the hypothetical Tea Party candidate and 18 percent backed the Republican. The GOP actually finished fourth in the imaginary race -- behind "undecided" with 22 percent. "This is a wakeup call for GOP leaders: they will need to find a way to capture the energy of the Tea Party movement, or else be deluged by it," Tim Mak warned ...
