Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Jan. 12) -- If fans of "The Daily Show" had hoped that host Jon Stewart would score an unqualified knockout in his run-in with Monday night's guest, former Bush administration lawyer John Yoo, they may have been disappointed. Yoo's interview with Stewart -- whose sometimes lacerating interviews of politicians and right-leaning media personalities have made him a hero to many liberals -- had been greatly anticipated. Something like a comeuppance was close for the man who had authored the so-called torture memos that provided legal justification for enhanced interrogation techniques like ...
How real is the "fake-news" these days? Real enough to land "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart atop the list of most-trusted newscaster in America "now that Walter Conkrite has passed on." Going up against the big three network anchors -- Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson -- Stewart handily beat his competition. In a Time magazine online poll of about 9,000 people, 44 percent said the comedian was the best source for trustworthy news, while 29 percent gave that honor to Williams, 19 percent named Gibson, and just 7 percent voted for Couric. ...
At Friday's White House Press Briefing, I asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs what I thought was an excellent question, and one which has garnered considerable attention from the blogosphere. Over the weekend, I found myself the recipient of heaps of gratitude from the LGBTQ community, a sad statement on the status of mainstream advocacy for gay equality.I also found myself the target of a rather dismissive accusation from Comedy Central's Indecision Forever, who thought that this question had a too-familiar ring to it:I wondering if you could describe the difference between the President's ...
The short answer is "no," but it's a nice entree´ into another distracting brouhaha, in which the messenger eclipses the message. In this case, a question that I intended to ask at Wednesday's White House Press Briefing, and which I began writing an article about Thursday morning, was remarkably similar to a bit that was on The Daily Show Thursday night. I held that article up so I could try to get that question in at Friday's briefing, which I did:Imagine my surprise, then, when Comedy Central's Indecision Forever website accused me of lifting my question from Stewart? (They have since ...
Every pundit, news anchor, talk show host, journalist, blogger, Twitterer, gad about town and dude in camouflage shorts sitting at a computer has, in the last few weeks, had something to say about the future of the Republican party. The loudest and most repeated message is that Republicans are not modern; we are not hip. Things have changed, and yes we (Republicans) can, nay must, change with them. The quieter message insists that Republicans have already wandered too far toward Obama, too far away from what made the party work before. The overall din is raucous. Are there to be purges, or big ...
Is the weather getting you down? John Oliver of The Daily Show explains why it's Obama's fault, after all, it happened on his watch. Of course if you're one of the million who lost power, not even this will be able to cheer you up. .cc_box a:hover .cc_home{background:url('http://www.comedycentral.com/comedycentral/video/assets/syndicated-logo-over.png') !important;}.cc_links a{color:#b9b9b9;text-decoration:none;}.cc_show a{color:#707070;text-decoration:none;}.cc_title a{color:#868686;text-decoration:none;}.cc_links a:hover{color:#67bee2;text-decoration:underline;} The Daily Show With Jon ...
A big thanks to our friends over at Comedy Central for putting together this collection of the best Sarah Palin moments from Jon Stewart's coverage of the 2008 election. "The Daily Show" took a few shots at the Obama campaign during last night's episode. Jon joked about Obama's seal blunder and his reversal on public financing. "Barack Obama has changed the motto of the Presidential seal from E Pluribus Unum, from many to one, to Vero Possumus, which rougly means yes we can. How do you say 'but you shouldn't' in Latin?" Big public ... that's funny. Stewart had to point out it's OK to laugh at Senator Obama. You can read that sentence again if you like. Is de-sanctification a word? Updated: more video after the jump. HUMMER COPTER! ...
Welcome to Videos of the week. I'm Jay Allbritton, filling in for Tommy Christopher who's on special assignment. Yesterday former Bush Administration Press Secretary Scott McClellan took his book tour to Congress. Republican Representative Steve King was waiting there to tell McClellan that he should just shut his mouth about the Bush administration. On Thursday Michelle Obama dropped in on the fine ladies over at The View. Obama says she's focused more on taking care of her kids than she is on the campaign and that she will have no input on the selection of Barack Obama's running mate. ...
